Braemar Castle

Set in the stunning landscape of the Cairngorms National Park and gateway to the glorious scenery of Royal Deeside. 12 furnished rooms with 400 years of history - Jacobites, soldiers, ghosts and Clan Farquharson. Built by the Earl of Mar in 1628 as his Highland Hunting lodge then burned by the Jacobites in 1689. Following the rebels’ defeat at the Battle of Culloden, garrisoned by Hanoverian soldiers and ultimately family home to the Chiefs of Clan Farquharson. Now operated by the community of Braemar who guide visitors round the Castle, sharing Castle tales and stories of the area.
