The Hunterian

The Hunterian holds one of the world’s finest university collections and is one of Scotland’s greatest cultural assets. Over 1.3 million objects include scientific instruments used by James Watt, Joseph Lister and Lord Kelvin; outstanding Roman artefacts from the Antonine Wall; major natural and life sciences holdings; William Hunter’s extensive anatomical teaching collection; one of the world’s greatest numismatic collections; and ethnographic objects from Captain Cook’s voyages. Major art collection includes the world’s largest permanent display of James McNeill Whistler’s work, the largest single holding of Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s work and The Mackintosh House, reassembled interiors from his Glasgow home.
