RSPB Scotland Mersehead nature reserve

Discover the breathtaking scenery and wildlife that's typical of this region. Stroll along the nature trails and use the viewing hides to explore at your own pace or wander to the beach through beautiful countryside.

Spring is particularly magical, when the wet meadows fill with lapwings and skylarks, not to mention butterflies and wild flowers. You might also see a roe deer. And in the autumn, thousands of barnacle and pink-footed geese start to arrive for the winter, creating a not-to-be-missed spectacle.

The nature play area is a great place for the kids to run off some steam and there are regular events for families and adults throughout the year.

The reserve is open from dawn to dusk every day. The visitor centre and toilets are open from 10am-5pm daily. During winter months, visitor centre and toilets may close earlier.

Free to members. £3 car-parking charge for non-members. This includes use of all visitor facilities including paths and toilets.

This nature reserve is important for wildlife. RSPB Scotland welcomes responsible access, in line with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. During the ground-nesting bird breeding season (1 April to 15 August) we would ask that you keep your dog close to you, preferably on a short lead and please clean up after your dog.
