Are you an experienced painter looking for a rewarding role with one of Scotland’s leading education and conservation charities and much-loved visitor attraction? We are looking for a painter to help keep RZSS Edinburgh Zoo maintained to the highest standard, so that it provides a 5-star visitor experience

This is a fantastic opportunity within a zoo-nique working environment. Whilst you won’t be directly looking after our pandas or tigers – you will be working with a ‘hands-on’ Property & Estates team to support the maintenance, refurbishment and new build projects and development at Edinburgh Zoo.

What you’ll be doing…

Working in unique new and established spaces, including animal enclosures, public areas and our historic Mansion House (all set within the 82 acres of Edinburgh Zoo) - as painter, you can expect to be involved with the following:

- carrying out daily maintenance and repairs to deliver an excellent visitor experience whilst complying with company standards and delivering to time and to budget
- undertake all forms of painting works by brush, roller, spray etc (e.g. interior/exterior, wallpapering, pre-treatment works, sign writing, road markings) and additional intricate works such as rose architecture
- take the lead on projects including measuring up for materials and planning the works with minimal supervision
- undertaking minor repair, preparation and plastering works, in addition to the necessary removal and re-fixing of fittings associated with the redecoration work
- keeping the work area clean and tidy and safe removal and storage of painting equipment and materials at the end of each working day

What you’ll need…

We are looking for someone who can communicate well with others, is able to pay close attention to detail and will commit to providing outstanding service to our visitors. If you have the following we would like to hear from you:

- relevant City and Guilds certification or S/NVQ Level 3
up-to-date knowledge and understanding of basic building related H&S legislation.
- positive team player and comfortable working alongside other trades
- understanding of basic principles of structural design and ability to work to design drawings.
- trained and competent on all paint finishes and timber treatments
- working knowledge of the risk assessment processes.

Please note that an offer of employment is subject to satisfactory references, evidence of qualifications, right to work in the UK and a Basic Disclosure Scotland check prior to commencement.

What you’ll get in return…

This is a permanent and full-time role (37.5 hours per week). We care for our people just as much as we look after our animals and visitors. As well as the fundamental benefits like salary and a Work Place pension, we offer other rewards that can help you financially, can make work a bit easier and make life outside of work a lot more fun! For example:

- all tools and materials will be provided
- 34 days annual leave allowance
- life assurance
- friends and family discounts
- employee assistance programme
- free access to other Scottish attractions with our ASVA (Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions) passes.

We offer more than everyday job satisfaction - as well as our wonderful animals we have a highly professional, diverse and friendly staff community too. So, in working for RZSS you've not only got a great job in a very interesting organisation - you're also part of an amazing cause too!
