The Abbotsford Trust

Project Cataloguer

Application Deadline: Friday 29th March 2019
Abbotsford, the home built and furnished by the nineteenth-century writer Sir Walter Scott is one of the most famous writer’s houses in the world, containing a world-class collection of historical objects. It is also home to the Scott family archive, documenting over two hundred years of occupation.

The Abbotsford Trust is a young independent charity with an ambition to increase access to and engagement with the collections in its care. Following the receipt of project funding we are now seeking a qualified archivist to help us catalogue this material to internationally recognised standards. A great deal of the archive dates from the time of Sir Walter Scott’s descendants and contains significant and untapped potential for future research projects and exhibitions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic team player able to multi-task within a small and friendly organisation. The successful applicant will also relish problem solving as they work independently to rationalise an eclectic mixed media archive. They will be experienced in cataloguing, using archival databases and conducting condition assessments. The postholder will also assist our Collections team with plans for the future management and storage of the archive and in supervising volunteer project work.
