Chief Operating Officer (Operations) - short term contract

Eden Scott is delighted to be working with Fife Cultural Trust to recruit a Chief Operating Officer on a short term contract from mid-late May 2019 for three months with a possibility of a further extension of an additional three months.

This short term contract can be on a full time or part time basis.

Fife Cultural Trust is an ambitious Public Sector Charity that have so much to be proud of from the historical grandeur of Carnegie Hall and Adam Smith Theatre to the modern, versatility of Lochgelly Centre and Rothes Halls.

They have over 50 venues from theatres to museums & galleries and their vision is for Fife to be a culturally vibrant and rewarding place to live, work and visit.

Following on from a period of considerable change within the organisation, the business would profit from someone with significant operational leadership experience inclusive of an eye for operational detail to provide challenge, skill and support to the operational team.

Underpinning the role will be an understanding of people and the importance of ensuring they feel visible and valued.

A review of operational practice across all their venues will be undertaken inclusive of their Headquarters, 29 libraries, 12 Museums, 4 theatres, 2 mobile libraries and a mobile museum.

The role of Chief Operating Officer will be an emotionally intelligent leader who has substantial experience in operational management alongside significant experience of venue operations, staff rotas and managing people.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:


Work alongside the Executive Team to provide clear guidance and a strategic lead on all areas of operational service delivery. Advising / recommending areas for change in relation to infrastructure, financial performance, staffing and customer service delivery.

Provide leadership and guidance to the Operational Manager, and Deputy Operations Manager; providing clear objectives, timelines and scrutiny that will enable the operational business to run efficiently and in a way that meets the needs of the organisation.

Lead the development of FCT’s operational plan which encompasses all Trust facilities and their uses and is embedded with venue specific operating procedures.


Drive forward an improvement programme in facilities by encouraging engagement with staff, service users and customers to maximise efficiency and effectiveness, and ensure the highest quality service at all times


Seek to ensure their facilities are working towards meeting statutory and regulatory requirements and that policies and procedures are being adhered to across the operational function.

Ensure systems of work, plant and equipment within venues are safe and of the standard required


Key skills and experience required:

Applying candidates should have a CV that details:

Substantial experience in operational management

Significant experience of venue operations, staff rotas and managing people.

Experience at developing improvement plans

Strong people and communication skills, being an experienced coach / mentor with experience of working across a multi-site organisation.

Knowledge of estates management and health and safety would also be highly desirable.

This short term contract will be paid on a day rate through Eden Scott, circa £230-£300.

This role will be based in Kirkcaldy and the post holder will be required to travel throughout Fife, applicants must have a driving licence and their own car.
