They own some of the world’s best loved brands such as Glengoyne, Tamdhu and Edinburgh Gin and are a third generation family owned and managed whisky and spirits business operating across the UK and internationally. They are producers of multi award winning premium whisky and gin with many other whiskies and spirits as part of their exquisite portfolio. ‘Crafting Spirits With Passion’, is what they do best… not only are they producers of liquid, but they are also distributors and suppliers in B2B and B2C channels.
They are a brand led, successful family business with their spirits (people and liquid), at their very core. Driven by passion, enthusiasm and solid business values, they are now expanding their B2C offering and continuing to invest in each of their brand homes (visitor centres) as their brands continue to evolve and grow.
They currently operate their brand homes across Glasgow (Glengoyne) and Edinburgh (Edinburgh Gin) and have consistently been rated on Trip Advisor as part of Scotland’s top rated tourist attractions! Their teams already deliver some of the finest distillery tours and tastings in the country and provide truly engaging and world class visitor experiences.
After recently securing planning permission for their new distillery and visitor centre in Falkirk (Rosebank), and not one for ‘resting on their laurels’, they continue to make further capital investments across each of their visitor and tourist destinations… their visitor centres which are the homes of their core brands. They are also further investing in their people and growing and enhancing their operational capability, to continually evolve and expand their visitor offering. Providing unique and outstanding visitor experiences, all underpinned by their focus on customer centricity and authenticity, this is the beating heart of the Ian Macleod Distillers’ proposition… ‘It’s their people who make all of their magic happen.’
An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a dynamic and experienced operations professional to join Ian Macleod Distillers in a newly created role, that of Brand Homes Operations Manager for their visitor centres.
This critical appointment will oversee all of the operational activities within their brand homes. This role will report to their Brand Homes Director and will have direct line management of the senior Brand Homes team, the team of Brand Homes Managers who are responsible for the day to day running of their visitor centre at each of their sites.
This new role will have both strategic and operational ownership and accountability across the management and delivery of visitor experiences across their estate. The remit will be to create and maintain a best in class Ian Macleod Distillers visitor centre operational model (which aligns to Ian Macleod Distillers’ unique culture, and to a model which is replicable and scalable) in terms of: people engagement and development; and structures and processes.
The overall aim is to continue to ensure that the Ian Macleod Distillers’ brand homes function and each brand’s specific venue, develops and delivers creative, inspiring, unique and wholly customer centric ‘on brand’ experiences to delight and excite their customers, doing so with profitability and commercial viability at the core.

Key skills required:
Significant leadership experience – successfully managed large and successful teams of people (for example within hospitality/tourism [luxury 5 star], retail, outsourcing or a similar industry). We are looking for a strong operational leader with knowledge and experience of efficient and effective operations modelling and best practice across various industry sectors. The successful candidate will have lots of operational management experience, ideally with previous experience managing teams of senior and front line managers and front line team members across multiple sites.
Innovative and creative in approach – someone who is a strong problem solver. It is essential that the successful candidate has demonstrable and exceptional people management skills with people engagement and people development principles at the core, also having a holistic and knowledgeable approach to the provision of exemplary and world class customer service through people. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate a full practical understanding of what it takes operationally to create & sustain best in class customer service & the provision of creative and engaging experiential activities. Previous experience of creating dynamic teams through structure, skills mapping and people development initiatives and the ability to manage delivery of such on an ongoing basis are essential requirements of the role.
Significant breadth and depth of understanding and influence of the customer journey and visitor experience journey – ideally in face to face customer environments.
Coaching and mentoring capabilities – a clear, thorough and decisive decision maker, effective in balancing, setting and delivering commercial gains whilst embedding a people and visitor centric approach.
Strong operational experience, business acumen and solid commerciality – with significant practical experience of systems and managing budgets and P&Ls, doing so using well refined skills and previous experience in budget management, forecasting and planning.
Ability to understand and demonstrate how to effectively create structure and best practice in a high growth medium sized family business.
Candidates are also likely to have a degree in a relevant qualification, combined ideally with membership of recognised customer service and visitor attraction organisation/governing body, project management experiences/qualifications and other related experiences and qualifications.
