An exciting new addition to our portfolio is our recently opened luxury floating hotel, Fingal, a former Northern Lighthouse Board ship. Fingal offers the ultimate in luxury, with 23 beautifully styled cabins, where guests can choose from their own private balcony, duplex cabin or, for that special occasion, the stunning presidential suite.

IT Team

The IT Team is responsible for providing The Royal Yacht Britannia and its subsidiary divisions, including Fingal, a high-quality IT support service ensuring the organisation operates efficiently, safely and effectively. As a small team we work closely with external contractors and cover a varied and wide range of activities, such as first line support to formulating the organisation’s technical strategy and implementing new systems. We are looking to grow our team with this new post of an IT Technician.

The IT Technician Role

Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Technician’s primary responsibility will be to provide first line technical support to internal stake holders by troubleshooting issues and ensuring these are recorded within our ticketing system. Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • Liaising with IT outsourced service providers to provide a high-quality IT, database and telecommunication service

  • To act as the first line support contact for all IT and telephony related issues and liaising with external Service Providers as required

  • AV Set up for internal and external events/conferences/meetings

  • Develop and deliver training courses to colleagues on all main applications used across the business

  • Develop and deliver IT inductions to all new employees

  • Support the IT Manager in Office 365, SharePoint and Active Directory configuration and development

  • Working with outsourced contractors to make configuration changes to the internal phone system as required

  • Working with outsourced contractors to undertake the management, testing and maintenance of CCTV

  • Acting as the first point of contact to provide assistance with internal databases, including configuration changes

  • Maintain the IT hardware inventory

  • Support the IT Manager in introducing system enhancements as required

  • Undertake Handset, radio and induction loop testing and maintenance

  • Undertake regular data cleansing/hygiene and re-structure tasks including a schedule of housekeeping procedures to both database records and table entries

  • Undertake regular testing and recording of business continuity procedures

  • Lead the IT and telecommunication aspects of office moves

  • Configuration and deployment of new hardware as required

  • Monitor compliance of IT policies and report any breaches as required

  • Project based work as required

  • In conjunction with all other members of the team, undertake any other reasonable duties related to the IT team’s function

  • Occasionally deputise for the IT Manager.

The IT Technician is accountable to the IT Manager.



  • Experience of IT troubleshooting in the work environment

  • Experience in a customer-facing role

  • Experience of working with third party suppliers


  • Experience of Office 365 and SharePoint

  • Experience of a similar IT support role

  • Past experience in delivering training
