Scotch Malt Whisky Society c/o Eden Scott

Whisky Venue (Bar) Manager - new opening Glasgow

Application Deadline: Friday 18th October 2019
Eden Scott is delighted to be working in exclusive partnership with The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) a club with their Head Office based in Edinburgh and unlike any other. As well as being a place to connect with other like-minded whisky lovers, they are also internationally renowned for their mission: to provide their members with an adventurous and fun journey of discovery of the world's widest collection of single cask whiskies.

They are an organisation that was formed out of the unconventional, which thinks a little bit differently and forged a mission to build a community and a range of experiences, to be shared (and having a bit of fun along the way). Their founder Pip Hills describes single malt scotch whisky at cask strength as the ‘best liquor on the planet’ and the SMWS is recognised for its award-winning whiskies.

Today, they are expanding like never-before, as the enjoyment of single malt grows globally, and whisky drinkers are looking to explore more that whisky has to offer.

The reputation of SMWS has grown from strength to strength, apart from winning numerous awards for the quality of the whisky at International competitions, they were recently named Independent Bottler of the Year for the 6th time in the last 9 years at Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky 2018. On top of that they were also awarded Bar Group operator for 2018.

SMWS has been growing rapidly and doubled in size in the last 3 years, a trend which it is looking to maintain for the foreseeable future.

An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a dynamic and experienced operations professional to join The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in a newly created role, that of Venue Manager for their new venue which will open in Glasgow in January 2020.

The Glasgow Members Room is the 4th venue in the SMWS portfolio and will be a members only venue playing host to their existing membership base of around 800 members in Glasgow. It will offer seating for around 80-100 people on the lower ground floor of the building at 38 Bath Street. The venue will be run as a 7-days a week operation opening from 11am to around midnight.

The venue will offer bar seating plus two areas which can be used for private or members tastings and events. A small kitchen will provide a limited bar menu with snacks as well as typical bar dishes which can be matched with whiskies.

Reporting into the Group UK Venues Manager this critical appointment will aim to build the Society Whisky community in the Glasgow area with the opening and running of the new Members Room venue. They will develop and implement new sales strategies, work with relevant other departments to achieve targets, in particular they will seek to rapidly grow and activate the Glasgow membership community and grow the wider Glasgow business.
