Calanais Visitor Centre

Cafe Team Leader

Application Deadline: Friday 28th February 2020
The Calanais Standing Stones are a national icon, and the most popular tourist attraction in the Outer Hebrides, with over 50,000 visitors coming to the Calanais Visitor Centre every year.

Based here at Calanais, we’re looking to hire a permanent new full-time Team Leader, to run our busy café. In a very hands-on role, you will lead and organise a team which delivers a great food and drink offer, to the highest hygiene standards, and which delivers the financial expectations of the business.

You will have at least three years of cooking & preparing food in a commercial environment, at least one of which will be in a management or supervisory role. You should be able to demonstrate experience of leading & organising people, especially under pressure, while your ability to manage & maintain the highest standards of food safety and hygiene is critical. We would expect you to hold a level 2 food safety certificate as a minimum, though an advanced food safety certificate would be desirable.

You will be responsible for the financial performance of the café, so you should have good commercial focus, and be able to demonstrate experience of delivering a menu which achieves target margins, along with strong cost control experience in terms of stock and staffing.

You’ll be a key member of the Centre’s management team, so an open and honest approach to teamwork is important. We’re looking for someone that cares about their work, and the food that they produce, who cares about the experience our visitors received and who will contribute their own ideas and experience to making us the best that we can be.

In return, we’re offering a salary of c£22K-£24K, contributory pension, paid holiday and occasional free cake. Online training is provided, and we’re always looking for ways to help our staff build their skills through supported education.

Being computer literate, with the ability to use Word, Excel etc would be useful, while a driving license, or at least a clear idea of how you’d get to work is pretty important

If this sounds interesting, then please drop us an email to, and we’ll send you a copy of the Job Description and person specification for the role.

If you have any questions please call and get in touch with either Simon Butler or Victoria Harvey on 01851 621422.

The closing date for applications is 28th February 2020.
