Join our team as a Skipper at The Loch Ness Centre
We invite guests to board our vessel, Deepscan. This one-of-a-kind, intimate experience takes up to 12 guests on a journey through the past 40 years of scientific research into the mysteries of Loch Ness. Our guests are able to witness the breath-taking beauty of Urquhart Castle and search the depths of the loch using world-class sonar equipment on board.
We are looking for a passionate Skipper who loves what they do and can make the tours a memorable experience for all.
You will possess a passion for boating and a strong understanding of maritime operations. Responsible for navigating and operating our vessel, you will ensure the safety of all passengers whilst providing an enjoyable experience on the water. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to respond effectively to changing conditions.
Representing the Loch Ness Centre brand you will be sharing your insights and knowledge, you will give our guests a unique and unparalleled perspective on famous sightings of the monster and the history of Scotland’s most mysterious loch. There will also be opportunities to take university researchers out onto the Loch.
You will be responsible for all aspects of running trips including transferring our guests from The Loch Ness centre to the harbour by our vehicle (2 minute journey). You will take care of the vessel, vehicle, and safety equipment ensuring that all checks are conducted and any relevant maintenance is scheduled.
Qualifications and Skills:
We are looking for applicants with demonstratable boating experience and the following qualifications:
PSV License category D1 allowing individual to drive the vehicle with 16 passengers.
All relevant Qualifications required for driving the boat (Loch Ness Passenger Boat in Category 3 inland waters) with up to 12 passengers
powerboat level 2 commercially endorsed (every 5 years)
RYA VHF SRC
RYA First Aid or Equivalent
RYA Sea Survival or Equivalent
RYA PPR
ML5 or ENG1 Medical
Contract: We are open to someone joining us self employed or joining us on an employment contract. Please speak to us about your preference in your application.
We have up to 2 vacancies to cover the whole offer. 30 – 40 hours available per week.
Fixed Term (31st March – 2nd November) Contract. During the interview process we will may be able to explore additional opportunities that may make this a year-round role (should that be of interest)! Weekends & Bank Holidays included.
