Dundee Science Centre is currently looking for outgoing, dynamic, confident, exceptional communicators to join our team to fulfil the key role of Science Communicator in a part-time capacity.

You will be part of a team responsible for the smooth operation of Dundee Science Centre’s programmes and services on a daily basis, supporting the Visitor Experience Leader (VEL). You will support the wider team in science communication and ensure the quality of delivery by team members meets audience expectations and standards. In-depth STEM knowledge is a desirable trait in this role, however having a confident and charismatic nature would be more advantageous. An understanding of science can be enhanced with on-the-job training; but an ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences is essential.

We are looking for Curatorial Assistant with proven collections management skills, attention to detail and organisational skills to maintain and deliver collection management procedures to the standards appropriate for an accredited museum. The role will work on the ongoing inventory of the collection. This post will help implement the museum’s exhibitions programme and display refreshes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The Role:

The Operations Manager is a vital role in the delivery of the five star Visit Scotland experience for our visitors and can only be delivered by leading the team to achieve consistently high standards and encouraging a culture of continuous improvement. As this is a 7 day a week operation with many evening functions high standards will only be delivered through strong team working, an eye for detail and a tenacious approach to removing any barriers to achievement. The Castle is a key contributor to Atholl Estates and the Operations Manager needs to be sales focussed, delivering direct and secondary sales and working proactively with the marketing team to identify trends and new sales opportunities. The management of costs budgets, particularly salaries, is fundamental to the role and the correct balance needs to be achieved for an efficient operation.

Effective communication with castle colleagues in other areas such as maintenance, events, catering, retail, and gardens is essential, as is support of the team on the wider estate, particularly Caravan Park, Holiday Lodges, and the Ranger Service.

MAIN DUTIES:

Visitor Experience

– A highly visible, floor-based manager of the castle team, leading by example through daily walk rounds.
– Ensure that a friendly, welcoming, and personal approach is delivered by all members of the team.

Finance

– Agree and deliver annual costs according to budgets, reporting on performance against budget and other non-financial measures

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supervising/undertaking the day-to-day operation of the property and environs to ensure an excellent customer/visitor experience. This includes supervision of:
Catering operation
 Lead with menu development and the preparation and presentation of a high-quality food and drink offer.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
To assist the Head Stalker in managing and enhancing the game resource and conservation activities on Mar Lodge Estate in accordance with the management plan. The central function of the role is in deer management; with delivering our annual cull being the principal priority but also catering to our sporting clients.

The position plays a key role in the practical implementation of written management plans on the ground. This includes carrying out works in some of the most ecologically significant wildlife communities within the Cairngorms National Park. The location of the Estate in such an area of environmental significance, as well as the high levels of public usage, means that the role is often employed in practical ways to manage the potential conflicts between these interests.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Key Purposes of the role will be met by:

• Leading on, and being accountable for, the successful delivery of the Mar Lodge Estate Deer Management Plan, and other priority actions (i.e. predator control) over a ‘beat’ (area assigned to each Stalker) of several thousand hectares of remote woodland, moorland and mountainous terrain.
• Advising and supporting the Head Stalker on appropriate management issues and processes, as necessary, and assist in the formulation of appropriate management prescriptions.
• Training, mentoring, and supervising junior staff, seasonal staff, volunteers and guests.
• To implement fully the National Trust for Scotland’s Health and Safety Policy and any processes and procedures specific to issues of game management and sport. To be active in the continual development and review of risk assessments.
• Keeping, training and caring for working dogs to; comply with the legal conditions of deer management authorisations, and to support game shooting and predator control activities.
• Supporting the wider estate in maintenance of key infrastructure using a wide range of plant and machinery.
• Working at all times to a level of service delivery equivalent to, or above, published codes of conduct and best practice relating to areas of work undertaken as part of the duties of a stalker.
• To extend the understanding of visitors to the Estate of game management and field sports and the harmonious benefits to be experienced for both sports, access, and conservation.

Purpose of role

JOB PURPOSE

With increasing risks associated with data protection and cyber security and the need to ensure we regularly monitor, advise on, and remain resilient in our data protection activities; this role exists to support the Data Protection Officer in advising the Trust and monitoring compliance with UK and EU privacy legislation including the UK GDPR, EU GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations. The Deputy DPO will also act as the Trust’s Data Protection Officer (DPO), in their absence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Support colleagues across the organisation with specialist advice and practical guidance on the implementation of privacy management policies and procedures.
• Assist in the recording, monitoring, and reporting of risks associated with data processing activities and identify actions that can be taken to mitigate risk.
• Assist in the preparation of reports to the Trust’s Board and Executive Committee through the collation of key management information, including case management statistics and updates on the delivery of training.
• Support the annual review of all privacy management policies and procedures in line with legislative changes and organisational requirements.
• Plan for legislative changes and their impact on Trust activities, identifying risk associated with the changes and managing workload to address such changes.
• Support the delivery of mandatory training in data protection, cyber security, and PCI DSS – including the delivery of refresher training to volunteers and employees.
• Process data subject rights requests, including Subject Access Requests, Erasure Requests and Objections to Processing, in line with the legislative timescales.

OVERVIEW OF THE POST

To provide a wide-range of services to support Almond Valley and also its visitors. The role is made up of three parts, one is to ensure that the site rides (train and tractor) operate to the advertised timetables; two is to ensure the cleanliness of the site is maintained; and three is to provide basic maintenance support to the maintenance team.
Due to the nature of this role the successful candidate needs to be over the age of 21 and hold a valid full UK driving license.

INFORMATION ABOUT TEAM

You will form part of the Visitor Operations Team, lead by the Operations Manager. The small dedicated tidy team team is made up of three team members, who work in shifts to ensure the cleanliness of the site, this team operates the rides on site. This role also works closely with the Facilities Manager, who ensures the maintenance and landscaping of the site is completed.

Customer Experience & Ride
• To open and close the various play areas and rides around the site, ensuring they are safe for the visitors to operate and the site is left secure at night.
• Meeting customers face to face and answering their questions
• Advising customer of routes around the site
• Board passengers onto the tractor and trailer and the train rides
• Drive the narrow gauge train and the tractor and trailer on a dedicated route around the site.

Site Cleanliness
• To carry out appropriate cleaning of areas as directed by the Operations Manager
• Housekeeping, maintaining public and retail areas are suitable tidy, including toilets, hand wash stations and play areas.
• To take responsibility for the removal of rubbish from the site litter bins on a regular basis and to litter pick and remove any items of rubbish left on site.

Maintenance Tasks
• To carry out planned necessary maintenance of areas as directed by either the Operations Manager or Facilities Manager
• Carry our appropriate general repairs, and maintenance of areas as requested by Management

Health and Safety
• To ensure that the Railway Handbook is followed while operating on the train or tracks
• To follow practices and procedures while operating the tractor and tailor.
• To carry out daily and weekly compliance checks on play equipment around the site.
• While undertaking the maintenance tasks, procedures are followed relating to the task being carried out.
• To ensure site meets with Health and Safety legislation in liaison with the Operations Manager.

As a key support to the Facilities Manager and Senior Maintenance Assistant, the Maintenance Assistant will engage in a range of tasks connected with the maintenance and upkeep of the site. Allowing the smooth running of the visitor attraction.

You will form part of the Facilities Team, lead by the Facilities Manager. The small dedicated maintenance and landscape team is made up of four, who work to ensure the maintenance tasks, planned and unplanned are carried out on the site.
