Stirling District Tourism Limited (SDT), an independent charity managing heritage events and visitor attractions in the Stirling area, is looking to appoint an experienced, highly motivated and commercially focused individual to ensure the charity’s operational effectiveness and future growth.  With a new project just commencing, this is an exciting time to join the organisation.

 

The role involves a wide range of responsibilities, including day to day management, providing support to the SDT Board, developing and delivering effective leadership, and managing all associated resources, projects, strategic planning and development opportunities, in line with the charitable objectives of the company.  Fostering positive relationships with partner organisations in heritage tourism is also key.

 

We are seeking an experienced individual with proven strategic vision, strong financial awareness, excellent leadership skills and an engaging communication style.  Educated to degree level (or equivalent), or alternatively able to demonstrate relevant knowledge, and recent experience in a high-profile senior management role are essential. Marketing and funding experience would be highly desirable, as is experience within the heritage sector.

The role

To coordinate the day-to-day catering operations to deliver first-class visitor experience and that your team and visitors enjoy a safe and happy environment; whilst generating income to exceed agreed targets in support of RZSS vision and mission.

Some of the things you’ll do:

Working with direction from the Catering Coordinators, provide day-to-day supervision of the Catering team.
Develop and maintain a supportive and dynamic first-class sales and service culture amongst the team -focusing on delivering high standards of service and food presentation in accordance with Cook safe regulations.

Ensure the Café areas are presented to the highest standards (displays, seating areas, signage), fully stocked and equipment is cleaned, maintained and serviced on a regular basis and report to the Coordinator any maintenance issues.

Support Visitor Experience Assistants with visitor complaints and act a route of escalation to deal with refunds in a professional manner and referring customer to your line manager if complaint cannot be resolved.

Working alongside the back of house team to ensure the smooth running of the cafe and outdoor catering areas as one united team.

Fixed term – This is a fixed term role until 31 October 2023.

Working with direction from the Catering Coordinator, prepare all raw food in line with hygiene legislation, minimising all food wastage through effective production. This can involve either cooking the day’s menu options or baking.

The Commercial Marketing Officer is responsible for providing a first-class visitor experience and support the Marketing & Communications Manager with marketing duties with a focus on Dovecot’s Social Media platforms. JOB PURPOSE
To maximise our visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining the excellent standards we set across our properties to enable us to provide the best possible experience for our visitors. The Housekeeper is responsible for a wide variety of housekeeping duties in connection with the well-being and care of the visited, non-visited and holiday accommodation at Crathes Castle and Estate per the Trust’s Housekeeping Procedures Manual, including the following:

• Routinely clean and look after the holiday accommodation and will involve but is not limited to:
o vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, polishing of floors
o dusting/polishing of surfaces and fittings such as furniture, ornaments, panelling, stairs, and doors
o dusting/wiping of sills, skirtings, door, and window frames
o cleaning of windows
o cleaning of lavatories, sinks, etc
o changing of bed linen and towels, and making of beds
o cleaning of bathroom/toilet areas and fittings
o cleaning of kitchen areas and equipment
o checking functionality of lighting, heating, TV/radio etc
o replenishing of welcome/hospitality trays, and consumables
o cleaning and providing clean laundry for each occupancy
o disposal of general household waste

• Assist with the administration of any repair works, liaising with the Visitor Services Supervisor to arrange necessary repairs.
• Ensure COVID 19 Guidelines and Safe Systems of Work is implemented effectively within function and with external contractors.
• Undertake any administration required in support of housekeeping, including (but not limited to): planning regimes for routine and in-depth cleaning; stock control and ordering of recommended cleaning consumables/janitorial supplies; recording work undertaken.
• Deliver excellent customer care to foster a friendly and inviting atmosphere for visitors.
• Share in the common responsibility of working in a manner mindful of the Trust’s obligations to minimise impact on the environment, through e.g. efficient use of water/heat/light, recycling and the disposal of waste, and considered use of transport.

Moirlanich Longhouse offers an opportunity for the public to visit an authentic, rare survivor of a one common type of dwelling, now becoming increasingly rare. We are seeking an enthusiastic part-time Visitor Services Assistant to augment operation of the property by maintaining high standards of presentation and visitor care. You will assist with maintenance of the grounds and external infrastructure, provide support to our volunteers and interact with visitors.

Inverewe
Inverewe is a garden of outstanding horticultural importance, recognised internationally for its extensive plant collections. Created by Osgood Mackenzie in the late 19th century, it has been in NTS ownership since 1952. In a challenging northern landscape of spectacular mountain and coast, exotic plants flourish owing to the benefits of the North Atlantic Drift and the protection of shelter planting established from the 1860s on the barren, wind-swept land. The planting has always been pioneering and ‘pushes the boundaries’, thanks to the skills and commitment of its gardeners through the years.

Inverewe’s 25-hectare garden has many components, including long drive beds filled with shrubs and herbaceous plants, open lawns, a shore-side rock garden, extensive woodland with ponds, and a working walled garden where heritage fruit, vegetables, and flowers flourish. A state-of-the-art greenhouse was opened in 2016. The current National Collections held at Inverewe are of Rhododendron subsections barbata, glishcra and maculifera, Olearia and Aeonium.

JOB PURPOSE

To assist in the maintenance of Inverewe Garden as an internationally recognised garden of outstanding horticultural importance, contributing to its conservation and development, and to its enjoyment by visitors and supporters in particular working in the Walled Garden under the supervision of the Walled Gardener. The prestigious historic Walled Garden, created in the 1860s by Osgood Mackenzie and, since the Trust took over in 1952, presented as a ‘model’ of ‘kitchen garden’ design, display and cultivation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assisting the Walled Gardener with general horticultural duties to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:

a. Undertaking practical maintenance of the garden (e.g., managing shrubs and herbaceous borders)
b. Grass-cutting, strimming, hedge-cutting and raking/collection.
c. Cutting of lawn edges
d. Hand-weeding of beds and borders
e. Fruit and vegetable production, watering and feeding vegetable beds and harvesting produce.
f. Planting out (under direction of the Walled Gardener)
g. Application of mulches and compost

2. Assisting with general property maintenance duties and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:

3. Assisting as required with the general enjoyment of the gardens and estate by:

a. Responding to general visitor enquiries
b. Assisting at events held within the garden or on the estate.

4. Assisting with interpretation activities such as answering basic horticultural enquiries from visitors and providing clear and accurate plant labeling.

5. Working with the full-time staff to foster positive relationships with local communities, visitors and promoting the work of the Trust, and actively seeking opportunities to increase Trust membership.

6. Working with volunteers to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard and gain benefits from their volunteering.

7. Ensuring compliance with the Trust’s health, safety and environment policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors. This includes recognition of the Trust’s environmental policy with respect to sustainable gardening policies.

8. Undertaking such other reasonable duties as may from time to time be required to ensure the smooth running of the property as required by the Head Gardener.

This role does not require you to undertake a criminal record.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications
 No formal educational qualifications required – but previous gardening or grounds-keeping experience is highly desirable.
 Driving License, valid for driving within the UK

Experience

Essential
 Should be experienced with a wide range of hand tools and basic machinery / equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, strimmer) or willing to be trained.
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, confident in interacting and dealing with a wide range of people, and able to represent the Trust.
 Capable of working effectively within a team environment, but equally able to work unsupervised.
 Good organisational and time management skills – including the ability to prioritise work where necessary.
 Must have a genuine understanding of, and belief in, the work of the National Trust for Scotland
 Solid interest in gardening with at least basic gardening skills and enthusiasm and practical experience.
 Strong attention to detail
 Sound practical knowledge of Health and Safety processes and procedures and the ability to work effectively within these processes.
Desirable
 A genuine love for gardening and garden maintenance is highly desirable.
 Experience of working in a garden open to the public
 Competent IT skills sufficient for use of the internet and for completing intranet training modules.

DIMENSIONS AND SCOPE OF JOB

People Management
 Will work closely with the Head Gardener/Walled Gardener and other property staff.
 Will regularly work with a team of garden volunteers.
 Will have daily interaction with members of the public of all ages and abilities.

Finance Management
 Not a budget-holder but will be expected to take responsibility for effective management of Trust resources in the allocated areas (e.g., compost, materials etc)

Tools / equipment / systems
 Will be a frequent user of powered tools such as mowers, strimmers, hedge-cutters.
 Will be a frequent user of hand tools such as spades, forks, trowels, rakes, hoes, shears, and secateurs.
