About the Role
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Café Assistant to join our Food & Beverage team in Falkirk.

We’re looking for someone who thrives on delivering exceptional customer service while creating a safe, secure, and enjoyable experience for every visitor. You’ll help create a welcoming experience for visitors, engage with customers, and support sales by promoting Scottish Canals’ products and services. The role is offered on a Fixed Term basis until the end of October 2026, working flexible pattern over 7 days 30 hours per week.

Primary responsibilities of the role:
• Deliver an excellent service to all customers
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness within and around the Falkirk Wheel. Ensure all areas are clean, tidy and hazard free and meet required standards. Regular checking and maintenance of equipment to ensure fitness for purpose. Noting/reporting defects ensuring issues are rectified.
• Serve customers, assisting with any information when requested, helping with purchases, upselling where appropriate
• Take payment for café goods, ensuring compliance with defined standards as appropriate.
• Receive and store cash and other means of payment, keeping records of monies received and process documentation.
• Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels within catering units. Present and display food offerings effectively.
• Encourage continuous improvement through sharing knowledge experience and best practice with colleagues.
• Support the promotion and delivery of special events and cover for other members of staff, providing office support as required.
• Provide local tourist information to customers and signpost with enquiries

About the Reward
This role offers a progressive starting salary of £28,106 – £30,562 (Band B) plus 11.25% variable hours allowance.

Scottish Canals offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 224 hours, plus 6 public holidays, along with enhanced sick pay, discounted shopping vouchers, health cash plan and a contributory pension scheme with up to 10% employer contribution.

About You
Skills, qualifications, experience required:
• 1 year minimum in similar role
• Barista certification advantageous
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Good time management and organisational skills
Qualities & abilities required:
• Confident, friendly, welcoming, helpful, engaging nature
• Keen to work across various disciplines and as part of team
• Ability to deal with customer enquiries in a professional manner, providing appropriate information and guidance
• A real enjoyment for dealing with the public to engage and go the extra mile
