We’re looking for a Historic Building & Estate Officer to join our team at the Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore.

The Highland Folk Museum is a large open-air museum based in the Cairngorm National Park where we explore life in the Scottish Highlands from the 1700’s to the mid 1900’s. We have over 35 reconstructed historic buildings spread out over our mile-long site, allowing visitors to learn how people lived, work, and spent their leisure time.

In this role, you will lead on the development and maintenance of our historic buildings, structures and landscape features, and take on the position of Responsible Premise Officer (RPO) with a responsibility for Health and Safety, construction site and maintenance management.

The Historic Building & Estate Officer will be responsible to the Curatorial manager and will line-manage the maintenance team including the Craft Skills Supervisor, as well as overseeing and ensuring safe working practices in the workshop.

We have a wide range of buildings/structures, from turfed houses and thatched cottages to shinty pavilions, and even our own coracle pond. We’d encourage anyone who applies for this position to have a look on our website to get an idea of what the site is like.
