Site Caretaker

Calanais Visitor Centre, Isle of Lewis

Salary: £15,413 per annum

Hours: 20 hours per week over 5 days

Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2027, with the possibility of extension.

About the Role

The Calanais Visitor Centre is looking for a reliable, practical and proactive Site Caretaker to help maintain our buildings, grounds and facilities to a high standard.

This varied, hands-on role combines cleaning, general maintenance and grounds care, helping to ensure a safe, clean and welcoming environment for visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Carry out daily cleaning and housekeeping duties throughout the Visitor Centre.

Undertake minor repairs and general building maintenance.

Maintain outdoor areas, pathways and grounds.

Carry out routine building and safety checks, reporting any issues.

Assist with deliveries, events and general site operations.

Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and staff.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

Previous experience in caretaking, cleaning, maintenance, facilities or a similar role.

Practical skills and the ability to carry out minor repairs.

Good awareness of health and safety.

The ability to work independently and manage daily tasks.

A reliable, flexible approach and pride in maintaining high standards.

The role involves physical work, including lifting, carrying and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Working Hours

20 hours per week over 5 days, potentially including Saturdays. Preferred working hours are 8am–12 noon, although flexibility is available for the right candidate.
