PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Under the direction of the First Gardener, to assist with conservation, maintenance and development of the garden, ensuring the garden is presented to a high standard in line with the aims and objectives of the National Trust for Scotland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Undertaking practical maintenance of the garden to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by visitors. Activities may include:

Turf care: Grass-cutting, strimming and edging.

Managing trees, shrubs and hedges: Pruning and hedge-cutting.

Managing herbaceous plants and bulbs: Hand-weeding of beds and borders and planting.

Weeding, watering and feeding vegetable beds and harvesting produce.

Plant propagation.

Pest & disease control.

Composting and soil improvement.

Maintenance of paths, paving and carpark.

Demonstrating self-motivation, organisation, planning, prioritisation, good time-management and attention to detail.

Undertaking other reasonable duties that may be required to ensure the smooth running of the property, such as assisting at events held within the garden or the property.

Assisting with interpretation activities such as answering horticultural enquiries from visitors and contributing to accurate plant records.

Working with staff to foster positive relationships with local communities, visitors and promoting the work of the Trust, and actively seeking opportunities to increase Trust membership.

Working with and supervising volunteers to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard and gain benefits from their volunteering.

Ensuring compliance with the Trust’s health, safety and environment policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors. This includes recognition of the Trust’s environmental policy with respect to sustainable gardening policies.

By maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income, and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure you will be a vital part of furthering the valuable work of the National Trust for Scotland.

You will contribute to the team property targets and work well within a team.

You will deliver 30 min guided tours of the property to visitors, understanding of the property establishing and maintaining the Trust’s reputation as a guardian of Scotland’s heritage, and as the organisation that actively wants people to engage with and enjoy the properties it cares for. Training will be provided.

You will help with the day-to-day catering operations in Holmwood’s café, from taking orders and serving food, to mastering barista skills and ensuring good housekeeping of café and kitchen areas. Training will be provided.

Our ideal candidate you should be an excellent storyteller with a knack for customer service. An outstanding tour guide will perform minor alterations to each itinerary to suit the unique interests of each group. You will have excellent presentation skills and be able to communicate the importance of Scottish heritage and its preservation and work well within a team which includes our fantastic group of volunteers.

Someone who wants to help us generate the income and recruit the members that enable us to care for all the unique and valuable properties within the Glasgow cluster. They will enjoy the variety and exciting challenges that come with working across several different sites and areas.

As a member of our guest services team, you will deliver outstanding experiences for our guests ensuring their time with us is a memorable one. Using your vibrant personality, you will greet and host our guests giving them the warmest of welcomes and a reason to return.

As part of our guest experience you will deliver a short piece of scripted content to our guests. You should have experience of engaging with an audience, providing outstanding guest service and proficient use of till systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Nature conservation

To monitor key seabird colonies including population, breeding success and feeding studies

To collate cetacean and other marine sightings

To collect, manage and collate biological information in a consistent manner compatible with Trust and national datasets

To produce and disseminate results of monitoring, including monthly and end of season reports

To contribute to other biological monitoring programmes as appropriate

To carry out biosecurity checks following set protocols

To support NTS’s response to avian influenza

Visitor Services

Welcoming and engaging visitors, enhancing their experience by providing information about Mingulay, its natural and cultural heritage, including strong messages around safety and respect for wildlife, habitats and cultural heritage.

Encourage people to further contribute to caring for Mingulay through donating or taking up membership of NTS.

To assist with visitor management and interpretation, including participating in the guided walk programme and contributing articles for the website and newsletters

Assist with practical countryside management including litter picks, beach cleans, maintenance and safety checks.

Lead and assist with events such as guided walks and talks as appropriate.

Community engagement

Build strong working relationships with Day Boat Operators, their crew members, and other local stakeholders to support consistent messaging to visitors.

Marketing & Communications

Enthusiastically promote awareness and understanding of the role that NTS plays in protecting and caring for Mingulay and wider work across Scotland.

Regularly update and contribute positive stories to NTS social media and other communication outlets relevant to Mingulay

An exciting opportunity has opened to join the team at The National Wallace Monument as a Visitor Experience Assistant. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual, who is committed to delivering a first class customer experience to every visitor at the attraction.

The post is a customer focused role and the holder will be expected to have a good level of background knowledge about the attraction, the surrounding area, as well as Stirling’s wider tourism offering. They will also be required to assess individual visitor needs, upsell products and ensure that each customer receives the highest level of customer service at all times. The successful candidate will need to ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to, and that the attraction and grounds are being consistently maintained to the highest possible standard.

This position is initially offered on a one-day-per-week basis (7 hours). However, the working hours are subject to change based on business needs and may increase accordingly. The role operates across a seven-day schedule, and availability for weekend work is essential.

We are looking for a Car Parking Assistant to assist our visitors with parking and help keep traffic moving over the busy weekend period and during holidays. With a friendly and professional approach, you will process contactless payments, direct customers to spaces and patrol parking areas. You should demonstrate a positive attitude and good people skills.

Ensure the highest standards of kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, tidiness and related schedules are adhered to.

Cleaning and sterilising countertops, kitchen walls, stoves, ovens, grills and sinks.

Cleaning the entire kitchen once it is closed to ensure it is ready for the next day.

Maintaining the food storage areas like freezers and refrigerators.

Receiving deliveries and organising them in the kitchen.

Washing dirty dishes like cutlery, pots, cutting boards and pans or loading dishes into the dishwasher.

Removing kitchen waste from waste containers and disposing of them properly.

Cleaning and maintaining cooking equipment like cookers, pots and food mixers.

Supporting the Chef in basic food preparation like cutting ingredients, peeling and washing food items.

Follow instructions from Chef and adhere to daily / weekly checklists.

Involvement in the upkeep and maintenance of both the entire department site and, specifically, the F&B outlets.

Welcoming visitors to the site and processing their admission/retail purchase in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner.

Answering visitors’ queries about the site and the local area.

Proactively engaging with visitors about the site, its history, contents, offers and merchandise.

Promoting the National Trust for Scotland brand, to include our Membership scheme, events, upselling other properties and any promotional campaigns, being proactive in the selling of Membership and Gift Aid.

On occasion conduct guided tours of Falkland Palace to the general public and visiting groups.

Ensuring site is ready to open and welcome visitors by the set opening time.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Cleaner to join our Destinations Team at The Falkirk Wheel. The purpose of this role is to provide 5 star service to all customers at the Falkirk Wheel, methodically and efficiently tending to the cleanliness and hygiene of our destination.  In turn ensuring our customers have a memorable experience during their visit, and integral in the cleanliness of the Visitor Centre, New Port Downie building, event rooms and surrounding areas to ensure visitors would like to return.

The role is offered on a fixed-term basis until the end of October, and with a salary of £24,294 (Band A) plus 11.25% Variable Hours allowance.  Working hours 35 hours per week, on a variable shift pattern (day time only).
