Tantallon Castle is a dramatic cliff-top fortress, with a significant history, varied wildlife and extensive views. As a steward, you are key to enhancing the visitor experience by engaging with visitors about all aspects of the site.

Tantallon Castle sits within Lothian District, which is made up of 7 staffed sites and 27 unstaffed sites. Nearby properties include Dirleton Castle and Seton Collegiate Church.

• Jedburgh Abbey – Local landmark with Romanesque and early gothic architecture.
• Melrose Abbey – Burial place of the Heart of Robert the Bruce.
• Dryburgh Abbey – a romantic rural ruin and final burial place of Sir Walter Scott and Earl Haig.

The Scottish Borders is home to some fantastic and unique attractions, the iconic Border Abbeys in Melrose, Jedburgh and Dryburgh alongside the atmospheric Hermitage Castle and Smailholm Tower.

Together these attracted around 100,000 visitors in 2024.

Linlithgow Palace, set within a royal park, is a magnificent property. As well as exploring the significant history, visitors are invited to walk around the extensive grounds, and climb to the top of Queen Margaret’s Bower, with views over Linlithgow Loch. As a steward, you are key to enhancing that experience by engaging with visitors about all aspects of the site.

Linlithgow Palace sits within Lothian District, which is made up of 7 staffed sites and 27 unstaffed sites. Nearby properties include Cairnpapple Hill, Blackness Castle and Kinneil House.

Your role of Roving Steward will be a fixed position up until 30th September 2025. The likely start date for this role is in April 2025.

You’ll be working as part of a large team in a fast paced environment, with the opportunity to be involved with our exciting events programme.

Glasgow Cathedral is dedicated to St Kentigern, also known as St Mungo- built in the 1100s the Cathedral drew countless pilgrims to his shrine. Today, it’s the most complete medieval cathedral on the Scottish mainland, having survived the Protestant Reformation almost intact.

Your role of Steward will be from 1st April- 30th September 2025. The likely start date for this role is in April 2025.

At Dumbarton, you’ll be sharing your passion for Dumbarton’s history with visitors, enjoy upselling products and memberships in the shop, and will have the opportunity to keep active outdoors, conquering the site’s many steps! You’ll be working as part of a small team where your interests will have a real impact on the visitor experience.

Dumbarton Rock, a twin-peaked outcrop of basalt, was formed 350 million years ago, before becoming a stronghold of the kingdom of Strathclyde. The castle continued to serve as a garrison fortress until the early 19th century, when Dumbarton’s shipyards grew around the rock. The castle now offers commanding views over the surrounding town of Dumbarton.

You will be responsible for delivering the highest standards of visitor experience at The Blackhouse, a traditional, fully furnished thatched house. Working across all areas, including in the shop/admissions area and outside. In addition, you will be carrying out manual tasks associated with the upkeep of the site, including lighting and maintaining the traditional peat fire
