A visit to The Courtyard Café is an important part of a trip to Haddo House & Country Park, for tourists and locals alike.

The café is a family and dog friendly venue, located within the original stable block at Haddo House.

With a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating we aim to cater for everyone, from the grab and go dog walker to the leisurely Sunday brunch crowd.

We pride ourselves on a warm welcome and a homely menu, serving up soups, as well as hearty meals such as macaroni cheese and deliciously tasty sandwiches. We also have a variety of treats for the sweet-toothed visitors, not forgetting our fabulous scones, seasonal milkshakes, and speciality coffees.

Job Purpose

To provide a professional catering offer, under the direction of the Café Supervisor and the Food & Beverage Visitor Services Manager, the post holder will be an experienced cook/ baker with a proven track record of excellence in the kitchen.

They will cook, bake, and assist with the development of the catering operations, ensuring the maximisation of profits, while delivering the highest levels of quality and customer service.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Catering Operation

• Plan, prepare, cook, and present food of the highest quality and standard.
• Ensure that food is prepared and served in a timely manner
• Accountable for cost effective stock management, ordering, storage, and wastage control
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, food hygiene, food allergen, licensing, and environmental health standards, completing all related record-keeping.

• Ensuring that The Courtyard Café and other pop-up catering outlets have an excellent reputation for food and service

• To ensure all food is cooked, presented, and serviced within Trust Standards using innovation in the method and style of presentation and food service.

Financial Management
• To assist the Café supervisor with budget and costs management
• To show a deliverable financial management and commercial awareness in a commercial kitchen.

• To complete a monthly stock take

JOB PURPOSE
To maximise our visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure.

To maintain excellent standards of site and personal presentation at all times
• The general ongoing operational cleaning of all areas as necessary, toilet cleaning, emptying waste bins and as appropriate vacuum cleaning, mopping, sweeping, dusting and polishing when required.
• Ensuring site is ready to open and welcome visitors by the set opening time.
• Wearing correct uniform, name badges, or PPE as required.
• Reporting all instances of damage and wear and tear issues promptly to your line manager.
• Working in harmony with other departments; housekeeping, gardening, grounds maintenance and site repair employees/contractors.

Financial Responsibilities
• To adhere to all financial procedures to include till operation and banking and safeguarding of monies: to implement amendments to standard procedure as instructions may dictate.

Health and Safety
• To ensure site meets with Health and Safety legislation in liaison with your department manager.
• To ensure that visitors vacate the site at close of business and that the site is secured at end of day.

Castle Fraser
Castle Fraser is situated in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains. Only 3 miles from the village of Kemnay the estate is set in the rolling farmland of Aberdeenshire with mixed forestry plantations nearby. The history of the Fraser family goes back to the 15th century with parts of the Castle itself date back to 1576.

The walled garden and shrubbery area forms part of the larger design laid out by Thomas White in 1795. The walled garden is a modern interpretation of an older layout with herbaceous plants / fruit and vegetable production as well as themed areas of planting. Adjacent is a modern woodland garden with substantial woodland play area for children and families. The wider polices include parkland trees – avenues and drives, meadows and forestry plantations.

This regionally significant Castle and its outstanding garden and landscape attract around 30,000 visitors a year; a competent and enthusiastic gardener is required to complete and compliment the staff structure. An eye for detail as well as flair for creating a beautiful visitor environment is essential. There is much scope for developing within the role in the near future to add to the aesthetic of the property.

JOB PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Head Gardener, to ensure that the garden and estate are managed and maintained to a high standard in line with the aims and objectives of the National Trust for Scotland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Assisting with general horticultural duties to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
a. Grass-cutting, strimming, hedge-cutting and raking/collection
b. Cutting of lawn edges
c. Hand-weeding of beds and borders
d. Weeding, watering and feeding vegetable beds and harvesting produce
e. Planting out ( under direction of staff)
f. Application of mulches

2. Assisting with general property maintenance duties and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
a. Refuse disposal
b. Raking gravel paths

3. Assisting as required with the general enjoyment of the gardens and estate by:
a. Responding to general visitor enquiries
b. Assisting at events held within the garden or on the estate

4. Assisting with interpretation activities such as answering basic horticultural enquiries from visitors and providing clear and accurate plant labeling.

5. Working with the full time staff to foster positive relationships with local communities, visitors and promoting the work of the Trust, and actively seeking opportunities to increase Trust membership

6. Working with volunteers to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard and gain benefits from their volunteering

7. Ensuring compliance with the Trust’s health, safety and environment policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff, volunteers and visitors. This includes recognition of the Trust’s environmental policy with respect to sustainable gardening policies.

JOB PURPOSE

This job exists in order to manage and develop Mar Lodge’s functions and events business, corporate/private hire and sporting client support. The Visitor Services Supervisor will ensure income opportunities are maximised in the context of consistently high standards of customer care and lodge presentation.

Functions at Mar Lodge can range from intimate family dinners and tours to large corporate events and weddings for up to 200 guests. Every function requires the same level of planning and care, in order to deliver an outstanding product to our clients. As Visitor Services Supervisor you must have good self-motivation and organisational skills, and be able to lead a team of staff and external contractors, to deliver events in a smooth and professional manner.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

The key purposes of the job will be met by:
• Developing and managing relationships of trust with potential and existing corporate and private hire clients, such that Mar Lodge continually develops and maintains its status as a ‘destination’ venue, renowned for its excellence of customer service.
• Supervising teams which include members of other Mar Lodge departments and outside contractors such that there is absolute clarity of objectives, tasks and standards; and ensure their delivery towards a collective goal.
• Developing and managing the functions business to increase income as part of the property’s drive for sustainability and help raise the profile of the work of the Trust at Mar Lodge in its wider context.

JOB PURPOSE

To combine responsibilities on nature conservation, visitor services, learning and community engagement to help deliver the objectives of the property and wider National Trust for Scotland.

Protect the natural & cultural landscape of the Mar Lodge Estate, and to communicate and promote the work of the Trust in this regard and in general through maintenance of the key features and infrastructure of the property, visitor engagement, education and interpretation. Working with the local community, and communities of interest, is an important element of this role.

● Work with local businesses and other partners to develop our offering to visitors and to develop and deliver an Events & Activities Programme aimed at increasing engagement with the heritage of the estate and positive visitor experiences.
● Assist with the maintenance and development of the visitor infrastructure and facilities on the estate, including the car parks and toilets at Linn of Dee and Linn of Quoich, and wider interpretation, leaflets, signage, etc.

Learning
● Work with partners, for example: local schools, colleges, community groups, etc., to develop learning opportunities consistent with the objectives of the Trust at the property.
● Work with educational institutions to support and undertake research that will assist in the planning and management of the property.

Community Engagement
● Communicate with local stakeholders, neighbouring landowners, local businesses, local/regional agencies, and others to increase understanding and awareness of their and our aims and develop collaborative working relationships/partnerships to help deliver our priorities.

JOB PURPOSE

As part of the Estate team you will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Estate in accordance with the Mar Lodge Estate management plan. To deliver all aspects of ground, building and plant/machinery maintenance at Mar Lodge Estate to a high standard. In addition, actively participate in management of the estate woodlands, tracks and footpaths. To be the public face of the National Trust for Scotland whilst working on the ground.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Undertake ground maintenance to maintain the policies and garden areas to include grass cutting, fencing, spraying, track and footpath maintenance.

• Undertake building maintenance to maintain Mar Lodge, short term holiday lets, residential and commercial buildings in excellent condition to include plumbing, joinery, painting and decorating. Also carry out maintenance work to office/yard areas.

• Biomass plant upkeep and maintenance including: ensuring the smooth running of the heating system, year round monitoring of the woodchip levels, woodchip management, daily monitoring of the boiler and efficiency.

• Assist in the servicing/repair of plant/machinery

• Attending to any administrative needs of the job (e.g. health and safety documents, HAV forms) in a timely and efficient manner.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

To maximise our visitors’ enjoyment of Branklyn Gardens Tearoom by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure. To ensure the smooth and safe running of operations in the tearoom.

To provide the highest degree of customer service: greet and welcome all visitors to the property; recruit new Trust members and promote fund-raising initiatives; deliver appropriate admissions procedures; and provide general visitor information. Some flexibility will be required as to when hours are worked and regular weekend working will be expected.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

This role will assist the property team in delivering a high-quality visitor experience at Branklyn (including but not limited to):
 To provide a consistently high standard of visitor care at all times when welcoming all visitors to the site and processing their catering purchase in a friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable manner.
 Assist in food preparation and stock management.
 Answering visitors’ queries about the catering offer, deals, seating, and ingredients.
 Checking on how visitors are enjoying their experience of catering at Inverewe and enquiring whether all their needs are met.
 Consistently presenting high quality plating of food.
 Promoting the National Trust for Scotland and the benefits of membership of it.
 To maintain excellent standards of site and personal presentation at all times.
 The general ongoing operational cleaning of all areas as necessary.
 Wearing correct uniform, name badges, or PPE as required.
 Ensuring health and welfare of property staff, volunteers and visitors by adhering to the Trust’s Health, Safety and Environment policies and guidelines. This includes working within the property’s “Safe System of Work” (the system for managing Health & Safety).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

DIMENSIONS AND SCOPE OF JOB

People Management
 The Property team consists of a Visitor Services Manager and Visitor Services Supervisors. There are no line management responsibilities for this role, but this role works closely with volunteers and members of the wider site team.
 This role involves working with members of the public of all ages and abilities on a daily basis.

Finance Management
 This role will involve cash reconciliation duties as appointed by the Visitor Services Supervisor.

Tools / equipment / systems
 There will be the occasional use of cleaning chemicals.
 Use of kitchen equipment e.g. Coffee machine.
 This role will involve manual handling.
 Is expected to work and ensure compliance within the property’s ‘safe systems of work’ (the system for managing health and safety).

In this customer facing role, you will assist with general maintenance of the playground and garden areas. Maintenance responsibilities will include litter picking, emptying bins, and ensuring the playground area is maintained in excellent condition for our visitors via playground checks (training will be provided for this). Garden duties will include weeding, watering, and strimming, as well as helping visitors in our garden centre. Working hours will be 7.45am to 4.30pm on a 4 days on, 4 days off basis, including weekends.

JOB AIMS:

To Oversee the smooth & efficient running of the Retail & Admissions department daily, whilst ensuring that all legal and statutory regulations and responsibilities are met to maintain a safe working environment for our colleagues and visitors.
