JOB PURPOSE
The collections and interiors held by the National Trust for Scotland are historically significant and an intrinsic part of the visitor experience at many properties and for many members.
The VSS Collections RBBM is an exciting new role and the post-holder will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of collections care, preventive conservation, documentation, access and engagement for the collections, archives & historic interiors across the cluster. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, they will ensure the properties remain well presented, well cared for, well protected, well documented, engaging and relevant for the benefit and enjoyment of everyone.
The RBBM cluster includes the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum & extended site, Bachelors Club and Souter Johnnies Cottage, although there will be opportunities to travel beyond this cluster on occasion for development and to support and assist other staff across the Trust.
The role will be based at RBBM, with some travel to the cluster properties as required; some flexible home working will be considered.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct cluster-wide Integrated Pest Management checks; monitor & maintain the Environmental Monitoring & Control Systems; create, manage & develop Housekeeping Plans, conduct collections handling training and install and improve collections protection; proactively action reported recommendations for treatments and improvements.
• Work closely with the Regional Conservator to improve and develop the collections care and preventive conservation practices & processes across the cluster, assist in remedial conservation planning and conduct conservation cleaning as required; improve storage and access of collections & archives.
• Assist the Regional Conservator in property wide projects, supervise contractors/crew on site, ensure the collections and interiors remain protected & cared for during building, filming and other events that impact on the collections as required.
• Assist with the recruitment, training, and coordination of relevant property staff across the cluster to plan, deliver, maintain and conduct the conservation cleaning and care of the collections, the museum galleries, cases, collections stores and historic interiors to a high standard.
• Use of Trust systems to monitor the condition, security and location of the collections and interiors across the cluster ensuring any damage, deterioration or threats to the collections are promptly reported and mitigated; assist with object loans, acquisitions, and disposals; administration of collection enquires.
• Work closely with the relevant property staff across the cluster to achieve the collections objectives ensuring clear channels of communications are maintained at all times.
• Work closely with the Regional Curator to assist with the research, access, exhibition, presentation, and interpretation of collections and interiors; facilitate & supervise external research and access requests/visits.
• Work closely with the Collections Management Staff, to ensure that the Trust’s object movement and location procedures are maintained, updated and adhered to, so that location inventory information remains accurate.

Purpose of the role

The National Trust for Scotland opened stage one of a ten-year conservation program in summer 2019. The Hill House is now protected by a steel frame structure which incorporates walkways over the house and a new visitor center and café which delivers a unique heritage visitor experience.

Financial responsibilities –

• To adhere to all financial procedures to include till operations and cash reconciliation duties.
• Help achieve sales targets and membership recruitment targets.
• Upsell products within the café.
• Actively feedback visitor comments to line managers to improve offer, service and operation

KEY PURPOSE
To ensure that the garden and related policies of Brodick Castle Garden and Estate are managed and maintained as a nationally-recognized garden of outstanding historical and horticultural importance; contributing to the property’s overall conservation and development, and its enjoyment by visitors and supporters.

The role of ‘Gardener’ as a key member of the Brodick Castle team will be heavily involved in the development plans of the garden and wider designed landscape, with future projects aimed at creating gardens of international significance. Hence this post will be vital to realize this ambition of the gardens as a top visitor attraction. This post is likely to include frequent work in the woodland garden.

CONTEXT
The garden comprises a listed walled garden containing an impressive collection of tender plants that may be grown due to the effect of the Gulf Stream. It also features a large woodland garden containing a world class collection of Rhododendrons and plants from temperate regions of the world.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Key Purposes of the job will be met by:
1. Undertaking practical maintenance of the garden (e.g. managing trees and shrubs, herbaceous plants, and bulbs; turf care; pest/disease/weed control; staking, plant nutrition, composting and soil improvement to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by visitors including other professionals in the horticultural industry;
2. Fostering positive relationships with local communities and organisations and promote the work of the Trust.
3. On occasion, supervising and working with volunteers and/or staff members to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard, and gain benefit/satisfaction from their activities;
4. Demonstrating self motivation, organizing, planning, and prioritizing and good time management;
5. Undertaking such other reasonable duties as may from time to time be required to ensure the smooth running of the property as required by the Head Gardener.

JOB PURPOSE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Catering operation
• Assist with operating the F&B Outlets to maximise sales and profitability whilst ensuring NTS standards, policies and procedures are maintained.
• Ensure the F&B Outlets are effectively teamed up to deliver quality products and genuine hospitality experience.
• Assist with menu preparation, cooking and presentation of a high-quality food and drink offer at all F&B Outlets.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety, food hygiene, food allergen, licensing and environmental health standards, completing all related record-keeping.
• Ensure security of the premises, team and Guests is always maintenance.
• Assist with maintenance task within the F&B Outlets
• Accountable for cost-effective stock management, ordering, storage, and wastage control.
• Accurate completion of daily and weekly administration tasks as directed by the VSM – F&B Manager
Visitor experience
• Offer excellent Guests experience and ensure all members of the catering team following Department standards of operation.
• Support property-wide targets for completion of visitor surveys to understand more about our visitors.
• Act as one of our duty manager team, responsible for ensuring a safe and smooth visitor operation, opening/closing the Café 1702, addressing issues and emergency procedure, and providing relief cover, as required.

People management
• Supervise the activities of a team of permanent and seasonal Visitor Service Assistants (VSAs), achieving excellent staff performance and motivation through daily work and development.
• Enables the team to be able to work at top speed without compromising on quality and standards.
• Assist with preparation of catering rotas and holiday allocation to meet business needs.
• Assist with labor productivity and budget control for staffing allowance.
• Assist with ensuring all team members are trained to minimum legal requirements including effective induction, training, task-setting and coaching on front and back-of-house routines.

Finance Management
• Share responsibility for achieving an F&B budget of around £390,000a year.
• Monitor commercial performance and adjust activities to capitalize on sales opportunities and run a cost-effective catering operation.
• Supervise daily F&B Outlets tills operations and perform end-of-day income reconciliation as a duty manager.

Performance indicators and targets

• Weekly, monthly and annual sales and cost of sales targets
• Food compliance standards and record-keeping
• Visitor enjoyment reviews and ratings from visitor surveys and visitor feedback

Tools / equipment / systems

• Access to laptop and relevant online people management, training, financial monitoring and stock ordering systems, including NTS intranet and Microsoft 365.

JOB PURPOSE
To maximise visitor enjoyment through the presentation of an appropriate selection of verified facts and anecdotes relating to the property’s history/design/contents/function; uphold excellence in visitor care; promote the value of the work of the Trust including membership; and assist with the general health, safety, and security of the property. Please note that the job involves a high level of physical activity in the form of periods of standing, walking and being stationed outside.
Some flexibility will be required as to when hours are worked and regular weekend working will be expected.
Extra hours may have to be carried out to cover for the holiday periods.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Work closely with other VSA’s across the Property to ensure the security and integrity of the buildings and its objects are maintained.

• Visually examine all aspects of the visitor journey to inspect for any risk to visitors and staff/volunteers.

• Assist the visitor services team with visitor management and interpretation, including participating in the guided walk programme.
• Keep up to date with the on-line learning programmes available on the NTS learning portal.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
 No formal educational qualifications required – full training will be given.
 Demonstrable working experience dealing with a wide range of people – preferably in a public situation
 Demonstrable experience in guiding or presentation skills.

 Excellent verbal communication skill.

Dovecot Studios is recruiting casual staff to provide support to the Front of House and Events teams, acting as the first point of contact for customers and visitors. We are looking for people who can work flexibly, with usual hours being between 9am-6pm Monday-Saturday. Dovecot Studios is open to the public on Sundays throughout August as well as being open for events and private hire in the evening.

The post holder will be responsible for providing customer service, and high quality support to the Commercial and Events teams, on events and hospitality, commercial activities and building and facilities management. This is an exciting and varied role within the Visitor Services Team at Holmwood House as part of the Tenement House, Holmwood and Weaver’s Cottage cluster. We are looking for energetic, cheerful, and talkative individuals to join our team this season.
Working at all 3 sites will be required on a rota basis, but this role will be based primarily at Holmwood House. Through engaging and informative interactions, you’ll help share stories about these iconic sites and build support and understanding for the National Trust for Scotland.

• You’ll help welcome visitors from across the globe and ensure they have an enjoyable and memorable experience here from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave.

• You’ll work flexibly and with an eye for detail, ensuring the smooth and safe operations in Admissions, Retail, Catering and Events activities whilst making the property the best possible place to visit and work.

• By maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income, and ensuring that the site and its assets are safe and secure you will be a vital part of furthering the valuable work of the National Trust for Scotland.

• You will contribute to the team property targets and work well within a team.

• You will deliver 30 min guided tours of the property to visitors, understanding of the property establishing and maintaining the Trust’s reputation as a guardian of Scotland’s heritage, and as the organisation that actively wants people to engage with and enjoy the properties it cares for. JOB PURPOSE
To provide a high standard of housekeeping and guest welcome at Brodie Castle including all holiday lets, office spaces, campsite and public facilities.
To maintain oversight of cleaning standards in relation to the above places by you and your team.
The Holiday Let and Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all health and safety compliance requirements and documentation are fulfilled across all Brodie holiday lets.
To manage, lead and support a small team of housekeeping assistants.

Holiday Lets
• Monitoring of overall standards of cleaning and housekeeping carried out by you and your team.

• Ensuring linen etc. is bagged ready for delivery to the laundry and carrying out regular laundry duties on the premises.
• Welcoming guests in accordance with the standards required by The National Trust For Scotland.
• Take responsibility for troubleshooting issues that may arise during a guests stay during office hours and out of hours on a shared rota basis.
• Carry out regular inventory checks.
• Work with Property Administrator on managing bookings accordingly and associated liaison with other Trust staff and departments.
• Work closely with the central NTS Holidays Team to maintain brand standard.
• Monitoring and maintaining stocks of all consumables including cleaning products.
