Purpose of the role

As Kitchen Porter you will assist the chefs in maintaining a safe and hygienic working environment. Heavy duty cleaning and lifting tasks are a key part of the role. Candidates should have the ability to use an industrial dishwasher and chemical cleaning products. Some light food preparation may also be involved.

Scale
 The role is based in the main museum building and at Robert Burns Birthplace cottage.

THE HILL HOUSE

The Hill House is considered to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s domestic masterpiece. Working to a commission from Glasgow book publisher, Walter Blackie, up-and-coming architect Mackintosh and his wife Margaret created almost everything, from the building itself to the furniture and textiles. The garden itself was an integrated part of the home and the Blackies life. As such we strive to ensure the gardens today pay homage to Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s original vision and the Blackies domestic experience.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Under the direction of the First Gardener, to ensure that the garden is managed and maintained to a high standard in line with the aims and objectives of the National Trust for Scotland.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assisting with general horticultural duties to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
• Grass-cutting, strimming, hedge-cutting and raking/collection
• Cutting of lawn edges
• Hand-weeding of beds and borders
• Weeding, watering and feeding vegetable beds and harvesting produce
• Planting out
• Application of mulches

2. Assisting with general property maintenance duties and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by, visitors. Activities may include:
• Raking gravel paths

3. Assisting as required with the general enjoyment of the gardens and estate by:
• Responding to general visitor enquiries
• Assisting at events held within the garden or the property

4. Assisting with interpretation activities such as answering basic horticultural enquiries from visitors and providing clear and accurate plant labeling.

Under the day-to-day direction of the Visitor Services Manager, and in liaison with others as necessary, the Estate Worker works at the Trust’s properties in North Perthshire to maintain the path network and boundaries at all properties including strimming, fencing, dyking and to look after the car park facilities at Killiecrankie and the Hermitage. The Estate Worker works with the VSS, Rangers, Conservation Volunteers and other volunteer groups to undertake other estate work as required.

The key purpose of the job is to ensure that the North Perthshire properties are managed and maintained to a high standard, being conscientious about conservation, the environment and your surroundings. The Role

We are looking for a permanent leader for our newly refurbished community café in St Andrews, someone who is a real foodie and enjoys working with the public, providing excellent customer service naturally. This is the perfect opportunity for an individual with the right drive and passion who is interested in developing both their catering and leadership skills, and their knowledge in a senior role, whilst being part of a larger team.

The Person
You should have the desire and skills to provide an excellent customer experience for our updated offering. Having similar experience in a catering environment and the ability to cook, manage orders for the café and plan rotas for the catering, be proactive and have great organisation skills and be able lead a small team is essential. There will be statutory paperwork that requires completing daily, plus you’ll need to prepare banking, finalise end of day tasks and log the cafe’s performance. The role will include regular weekend working and the opportunity to support our other venues as required. Requirements

The role includes preparing and serving of fresh local food and beverages, recording payments through epos till systems, and general cleaning duties within our newly refurbished cafe environment.

You should have the desire and skills to provide an excellent customer experience. Have similar experience in a catering environment and the ability to be flexible with working patterns. The role will include some Saturday working as part of a weekly schedule.

We are seeking an experienced part time book-keeper to work 2 days per week and to cover reception on those 2 days. The applicant must be self-motivated with a smart appearance and have a confident and friendly personality. Applicants should be comfortable working alone but also as part of a wider team.

Working 8 hours per day from 09:00 to 17:00, 2 days per week (ideally Mon & Wed, days negotiable)
Possibility of extra days for holiday cover (by agreement)

We offer 29 days (p.a. pro rata) paid holidays (including Bank Holidays) plus a discretionary 3 additional days at Christmas and various company benefits including pension contributions.

Main duties include:

*Raising sales invoices, input purchase invoices, input journals
*Input income receipts, purchase payments and bank payments
*Cash floats, online banking and reconciling ticket income
*Processing expense claims and petty cash
*Bank and credit card reconciliations
*Reconciling prepayments, accruals, deferred income and other balance sheet schedules
*VAT Returns
*Credit control
*Collating payroll information (payroll is processed externally)
*Assisting Finance Officer as required

Secondary duties include:

*Telephone answering
*Assisting with visitors to reception (does not include visitor attraction guests)

Personal requirements:

*Detailed knowledge of Sage accounts
*At least 2 years book-keeping experience
*Detailed knowledge of Excel, Outlook and Word
*Attention to detail
*Good telephone manner
*An interest in history, heritage and tourism would be an advantage
*Driving Licence (there is no public transport to Hopetoun, so own transport is necessary)
