The Outreach & Access Manager works to enable wider access by Edinburgh residents to the City of Edinburgh’s museum collections of 500,000 objects and to its museums and galleries by working with all sectors of the community to foster interest in, and engagement with, the City’s cultural heritage.

Museums &; Galleries Edinburgh comprises 9 museum venues and 200 monuments.

Venues are City Art Centre, Museum of Childhood, Museum of Edinburgh, People’s Story Museum, Writers’ Museum, Lauriston Castle, Queensferry Museum, Museum Collections Centre, Travelling Gallery, Scott Monument and Nelson Monument

Job Activities

Work with community groups in external venues using museum collections.

Develop effective partnerships with community, voluntary, public and private sector organisations to deliver services in line with Council strategy and policy especially with regard to equalities groups and children and young people.

Liaise with owners and managers of businesses such as shopping centres, retail, catering and hospitality outlets to establish local heritage and other displays.

Advise and assist community based groups and organisations in the development of their own exhibitions, activities and publications in conjunction with colleagues as required.

Give lectures and talks to local organisations.

Liaise with the Public Programmes Manager to encourage maximum uptake of public programmes by community groups.

Undertake regular consultation with users regarding services and programmes, and provide feedback for the Curatorial and Engagement team

Manage loan and reminiscence box services of objects for schools and community groups.

Collate statistics for outreach service delivery and write reports on uptake and development for the Museum Management team.

Ensure adherence to National Accreditation standards when using the storage, loan and retrieval systems for the reserve collections.

Lead, direct and develop a team of volunteers and project staff who have responsibility for engaging with community groups across Edinburgh to interpret the collections of City of Edinburgh Museums and Galleries for people of all ages and abilities; and for encouraging visits to those museum and galleries.

Manage the income and expenditure budget of the Outreach and Access section as allocated and financial support achieved through grant awards and sponsorship. Authorise expenditure and prepare information for inclusion in financial budgets and reports on any aspects of the accounts.

Manage the mechanisms for contracting artists and workshop providers to deliver outreach services in accordance with Council procedures.

Oversee the work of volunteers and students on placement with the Outreach and Access Team.

Lead or participate in project teams.

Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation.

JOB PURPOSE

You will be responsible for the operation of Falkland Palace. Delivering performance standards and targets to ensure enjoyment of the property by visitors and members is maximised and key commercial, financial and development objectives are achieved to make the property fully sustainable.

You will lead a management team responsible for delivering an overall visitor service strategy, care of the site, including retail, events and admissions and liaise with colleagues responsible for collections care, estates management and gardens. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
You will lead a team to support the overall experience at Falkland Palace – currently including visitor experience, events, admissions and retail.
 Staff and volunteers – (recruitment, induction, development, motivation, performance management) such that they are fully equipped and motivated to undertake their duties to the required Trust standards and that staffing budgets are adhered to.
 Instil a Health & Safety culture across the property, ensuring the team work within the property’s ‘Safe System of Work’ to reduce risk of incidents and accidents to volunteers, employees and visitors.
 Budgets – (setting, phasing, monitoring, reporting, pro-active and re-active adjustments together with the Operations Manager and wider management teams) to ensure that the finances are sustainable within the context of the wider property budgets.
 Create a culture of ‘exceptional service, every time’. Delivering high standards of delivery and a consistently warm welcome within the visitor experiences at all properties.
 Driving the visitor services experience to achieve its financial targets, maximising income and profitability, using the Trust’s procedures and instructions. You will strive to be efficient and ensure cost effectiveness in all the work you do.
 You will ensure high standards of presentation across the property, you may have delegated tasks within other departments and you will understand and help deliver your overall property business plan.
 Work closely with other VSMs and Head Gardeners in the Fife cluster to develop visitor strategies for all sites.
 Taking responsibility for opening and closing and security of buildings as well as emergency procedure implementation, duty management and providing relief cover as required.
 Designing and developing tours, events and visitor experiences that engage visitors through storytelling.
 Establishing visitor experiences which are relevant, socially inclusive engaging to all visitor groups.
 Ensuring that all formal and informal learning experiences are designed and developed in line with the curriculum for excellence and the target audience needs
 Managing the promotion and administration of visitor experience and events together with property VSS’s

The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the full Brand Home operations which include; experience, retail, F&B and ensuring compliance. You will be expected to run overall operations, leading by example, and prioritising time on the shop floor. Leading the team to deliver world class service.

This role will require weekend, evening and on-call work, with opening and closing responsibilities. The post-holder will be based within 30 minutes from the Visitor Centre for on-call purposes.

Your responsibilities:

• Duty Management for Brand Home and distillery operations as required (full training provided)
• Lead and drive the risk compliance agenda across the Brand Home/s, lead and advocate good governance to ensure that all health, safety, and environment targets are met by driving site compliance with all legislation and internal Company Standards.
• To ensure zero additional costs to site through non-compliance, and (in line with Diageo’s code of conduct) to source the most financially viable option when identifying suppliers of materials/training.
• Managing all contractor administration and management on site Inc. Supplier tendering, contractor inductions & scheduling of works. Support with assessing suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS). Challenging where submitted RAMS had not met Diageo standards.
• Using bespoke systems including SAP, Entropy, EQMS & Enablon to record data and source vital information.
• Onsite point of contact with operations team, attend Distillery risk and PCC meetings as required,
• Responsible for carrying our task based risk assessments, and creating and reviewing work instructions

Qualifications and experience required:

• 3+ years’ experience in a compliance function within hospitality, food & beverage, retail, spirits/wine and/or a relevant industry
• 2+ years’ experience in a management/leadership/supervisory role
• Knowledge of Whisky is desirable
• Be familiar with sales protocols and customer service procedures
• Experience of contract and facilities management
• Strong understanding of Health and Safety
• Possesses or willing to work towards achieving NEBOSH and all internal health and safety training

Reporting to the Chair of The Strathspey Railway Company Limited and the Board of Directors, the GM will be responsible for the day to day running of the railway at all levels and across all departments, including the implementation of the company’s vision & strategy, ensuring compliance with company policies and the requirements of regulatory bodies such as the ORR.

The company has a close working relationship with its sister charity the Strathspey Railway Association and employs a small core team of around 10 permanent paid staff and a varying number of between 50-90 active volunteers, mostly members of the Association, depending on season.

The position is full-time and salaried on a pay scale of £35,000 to £45,000 per annum inclusive of all overtime, depending on the candidate’s experience & qualifications, but we are open to further discussions. The basic hourly week is 37.5 hours, however being a seasonal tourist attraction the job will involve working unsocial hours including evenings, weekends and public holidays as required by the demands of the job, the season and the train services to be run. Annual Leave entitlement is 30 days, including public holidays, with offset available when worked. Accommodation will NOT be provided, but a personal ATOC card providing significant discounted network railway travel will be available.

JOB PURPOSE

You will be responsible for delivering a memorable experience to all

Delivering performance standards and targets to ensure excellent levels of visitor satisfaction, while maximising key commercial, financial and development objectives, to ensure the property is property fully sustainable.

Your vision and drive will continue to build on our current, from creating fresh visitor numbers, bringing fresh ideas to showcasing our site to a wider audience, to handling initial enquiries and delivering memorable visitor experiences. Ultimately ensuring Fyvie Castle is recognised as a first-class visitor attraction.

You will be part of a broader management team responsible for delivering an overall visitor service strategy, promoting good communication within the property and across the division as well as a joined-up service provision.
