We are currently recruiting Guides for our busy summer season.

The job of a Guide at Camera Obscura & World of Illusions is an interesting and varied one. You will be working in the exhibition spaces to ensure our visitors are getting the most out of their visit.

In addition to selling tickets to the public at reception, you will be required to promote the attraction to passers-by in the street. You will need a sound knowledge of the local area to answer queries from visitors.

Dalkeith Country Park has been enjoyed by visitors for 120 years and its woodlands, riverside trails, cycle tracks and events calendar are valued by locals and visitors from afar. It is home to Fort Douglas, an exciting children’s adventure park and Restoration Yard, a unique stable yard conversion comprising a retail space, restaurant, food hall and wellness space.

This summer, we will welcome visitors back to our campsite to enjoy our beautiful park, as well as the many other visitor attractions that Edinburgh and the surrounding area has to offer. We are looking for a Cleaner to help keep our fantastic site clean and tidy. You will be responsible for maintaining toilet and shower areas to a high standard, keeping bin areas and paths litter free, and helping out in other areas as required.

To ensure that retail merchandising is in accordance with NTS policy.

To actively upsell products and services to facilitate the visitor’s enjoyment.

To actively feedback visitor comments to line managers to develop and improve offer, service, operations.

To work flexibly across departments and Fife Properties as needed.

To assist with the set-up, stewarding and break-down of events in liaison with the management.

To assist with Heritage Hospitality events. This may include evening work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Undertaking practical maintenance of the garden e.g. litter picking; managing trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, annual vegetables, annual flowers for drying, and bulbs; harvesting of fruit and vegetables, assisting with plant sales, irrigating potted plants, turf care; pest/disease/weed control; staking, plant nutrition, composting and soil improvement to the required standards expected by the Trust and for the maximum safety of, and enjoyment by visitors including other professionals in the horticultural industry.

Contributing to the management, conservation, sustainability, and development of the garden through plant propagation, cultivation, and the maintenance of appropriate plant records and labelling.

Engaging with visitors and assisting with education/interpretation activities such as introductory talks and guided walks.

Fostering positive relationships with local communities and organisations to promote the work of the Trust.

Working with volunteers, and on occasion supervising, to ensure they deliver required outputs at the appropriate standard, and gain benefit/satisfaction from their activities.

Undertaking such other reasonable duties as may from time to time be required to ensure the smooth running of the property as required by the Operations Manager. This includes some weekend working.

Ensuring compliance with the Trust’s health, safety, and environment policies and procedures.

The role

Works across one site (RZSS Highland Wildlife Park).
Assists other senior staff members in planning the route for the staff transport bus.
Drives the tour bus (8 seater) for the reserve tour guide and booked visitors.
Drives the shuttle bus for visitors between HWP and Aviemore and assists with the promotion of HWP
Performs maintenance checks and cleans the transport bus/s

Some of the things you’ll do:

Drive the bus to/from agreed pick up points as required, maintaining records of driving hours, distance travelled, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, health & safety regulations.
Undertake fuelling, oil checks and regular maintenance checks.
Keeping appropriate records and reporting maintenance requirements to enable them to be dealt with as appropriate.
Perform a daily check of the vehicle prior to driving.
Work with the Visitor Experience Team Leader to prepare an appropriate route plan for journeys, taking account of road conditions (incl. height restrictions), weather, fuel needs and staffing numbers.
Contribute to day-to-day route planning and discussion.
Maintain the overall tidiness and cleanliness of the bus, both internally and externally.
Ensure the bus and its contents are made secure when parked (either at Highland Wildlife Park, during promotional trips or at home address if required to take bus home).
Ensure compliance with RZSS’s policies, procedures and guidelines, together with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements (e.g. H&S; HR; etc.).

What we’re looking for:

Full current driving licence
Ability to identify and solve problems e.g. route changes / weather etc.
Ability to keep accurate records e.g. driving hours, mileage, fuel use and expenditure

There are multiple roles available, on a fixed term, temporary basis. The role is expected to last until 31 August 2024 and will cover our 7 day operations Monday – Sunday
Full time and part time options are available, there are 3 positions available at either 12, 18 or 37.5 hours per week.

Purpose of Role

To support the Visitor Centre Manager in motivating and leading the Visitor Centre (VC) team to deliver a first class Deanston Distillery Experience for all our customers and visitors.

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

Includes but is not limited to:

• Engage visitors in a distillery experience providing accurate and informative information via engaging and entertaining tours, tastings and other innovative experiences

• Demonstrate a pride and passion for Deanston Distillery, Scotch whisky and other CVH Spirits brands.

• Support the realisation of the vision for the Deanston Distillery Visitor Centre (DVC) through the Scotch Whisky & future Gin Experiences from our sister distillery, Tobermory, and the DVC Retail Store.

• Day to day management of the Visitor Centre, organising tours and tasks and allocating them to your team

• Provide daily support and supervision of the Tour Guides, including scheduling, monitoring and recording of working hours, creating rotas in line with operational and team needs, etc.

• Delivery against annual operational budgets

• Act as a Key Holder and be responsible for the opening and closing of the Visitor Centre

• Deputise for the Visitor Centre Manager as required

• Manage both the safe and till for banking purposes

• Be responsible for DVC stock levels and carry out stock taking and store work

• Day to day system administration of EPOS, managing email and telephone enquiries and DigiTickets.

• Work within the standards of CVH Spirits and Deanston DVC’s health and safety policy, food hygiene, licencing and other company policies and standards, ensuring compliance at all times

• Prepare stock for sale – to include filling bottles, building packaging and related tasks.

• Carry out cleaning and housekeeping to maintain attractive and functional extended DVC work areas – floors, surfaces, glasses, wash areas, toilets etc.

• Help plan and implement special events through the year.

• Build community engagement and support delivery of the Brand Home sustainability ambition.

• Work in partnership with the Sales and Marketing teams to provide ambassadorial and hospitality support

• Set KPIs for the team, run daily DOR meetings and ensure the team board is updated accordingly.

Qualifications:

• Degree in Hospitality or Tourism advantageous
• Health and Safety certification advantageous
• Personal Licence advantageous

Professional Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in hospitality, retail or Visitor Centre roles
• Ability to speak an additional language is a distinct advantage.

Specific Company or Industry Knowledge:

• Experience working in the drinks, tourism and travel, guiding or retail industry is required

St Vigeans The stones are hugely important, as they are among the very finest examples of Pictish art. They form part of our national collection of the early art of Scotland.

Claypotts Castle was built by John Strachan of Claypotts during James VI’s reign – the dates 1569 and 1588 are carved on the castle’s distinctive crow-stepped gables. AS Assistants will work closely with the team within our Adventure department to ensure smooth operations and safe adventuring. The AS Assistant will primarily ensure that all procedures are followed when customers are hiring equipment, speaking to the customers, and gauging their experience and knowledge. TOUR GUIDE AIMS
Visitors are essential to the success of the Museum and the Visitor Services front of house team and we aim to exceed their expectations. Tour Guides are key to providing a 5 star experience to our customers in keeping with the Museum’s aims and objectives. Tour Guides are responsible for providing guided tours within the allocated times, engaging visitors in the exhibition floors, orientating visitors and making sure they have all the information they need to enjoy their visit. Tour Guides inform visitors about the amazing work we do and promote all aspects of the museum.

PURPOSE OF POST
 To provide a high quality visitor experience to ensure that NMMST visitors of all ages have an enjoyable experience that informs, educates and inspires.

Assist in delivery of all operations to ensure, where relevant and practical, the property is managed to reduce risk to the visiting public.

Have an awareness of specific environmental risks relevant to working on the property, e.g. Lyme’s disease.

Carry out essential estate maintenance to a high standard – this will include

Small scale repairs to fences, benches, gates and other countryside furniture

Using and maintaining equipment including fencing tools, brush cutters and woodchippers

Day to day care of the conservation grazing herd including cattle, goats and horses.

Undertaking conservation work while following guidelines and regulations around scheduled monuments and archaeological sites

Interacting with visitors at the site to communicate key visitor safety messages and act as a positive ambassador for the site and the NTS

Work with and supervise volunteers in a safe and responsible manner helping them to maximize their input to the work needed at the site and their enjoyment of the experience

Work across the Culloden Cluster supporting Abertarff House and Hugh Millers as necessary

Support community engagement projects and ecological surveys on site to improve landscape management
