The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Cultural Services Assistant to join our team within Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries. The post is for 17 hours per week and is permanent. You will have a basic work pattern however, your days of working will flex to meet the business needs when required, and will include weekend working.

You will work as part of a team and be the first point of contact for visitors to our libraries, reading room, museum, and galleries as well as our shop. The role varies from day to day and would suit someone who loves books, culture and helping support our community to access a range of resources.

Responsible for designing and implementing an education plan for The Great Tapestry of Scotland designed to bring out the full learning potential of the Tapestry and the stories associated with it both the human aspect and the historical aspect.

Responsibilities:

Write and deliver an education plan for The Great Tapestry of Scotland, including learning resources, exhibitions, events and workshops.

Raise awareness and engagement of the Tapestry with activities including, but not limited to:

Develop relationships with key personnel within schools and youth groups across the South of Scotland and Edinburgh

Engage those personnel with a view to visits for lessons and / or workshops to promote the tapestry and its stories.

Assess any community projects and recommend Tapestry inclusion where appropriate (i.e. Bill McClaren 100, Eric Liddell etc)

Facilitate school visits to ensure the smooth running of any education trips

Liaise with school and Tapestry to ensure all requirements are met pre, during and post visit.

Design, identify, produce and test sustainable new learning resources for formal and informal learning in the Great Tapestry of Scotland. Develop learning resources which support the national curriculum.

Identify, review and develop opportunities to secure and draw down external funding to support project work.

Represent GTOS internally and externally e.g. at networking events, meetings, conferences and exhibitions to enhance and strengthen GTOS’ education profile.

At Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) our vision is for a world where every whale and dolphin is safe and free. We are looking for a dedicated summer Assistant to join our team at the Scottish Dolphin Centre, in Moray, Scotland.

The Visitor Centre is based in a beautiful location at the mouth of the River Spey. The largest bottlenose dolphins in the world can be seen feeding regularly along with ospreys, seals and a huge variety of other wildlife.

You will provide excellent customer service and a warm welcome to visitors in the centre. You will deliver interpretation about the bottlenose dolphins, seals and other wildlife of the Moray Firth, lead tours, and undertake land-based dolphin watches at the Centre. Training for these activities will be provided. This is a seasonal role running from June to September, working 5 in 7 days and you will be expected to work weekends.

You will be supported by volunteers and the WDC Scottish Dolphin Centre team. Experience in interpretation and wildlife tourism would be advantageous but not essential as training will be given.

Employment: 5 days a week, regular weekend work required. 30 hours per week, working either 9:30-4:30pm or 9am – 4pm.

KEY PURPOSE
To clean and maintain areas in Brodick Castle, the Woodland Café, the Red Squirrel Kiosk and Shore Lodge Bunkhouse including the toilets at Brodick Castle, Woodland Café and the Countryside Centre and general cleaning to the staff areas with-in the Castle to include staff toilet, offices, and corridors. The VSA-Cleaner should provide an efficient and effective service through high standards of cleaning and maintenance based on the needs of the properties all year-round including events and functions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The VSA-Housekeeping is responsible for a wide variety of duties in connection with the cleanliness and maintenance of the property. These duties involve keeping all visitor services areas as always outlined in the Key Purposes of the role clean and functional and following best practice. Cleaning and maintenance of the site is key to ensuring all visitors have a satisfactory visit.

Specific duties include:

• To ensure that a high level of cleanliness is maintained throughout all areas you are responsible for
• Each VSA will be responsible for an area and will be expected to clean to the frequency and standards set out.
• To use cleaning materials appropriately, as instructed and economically; to inform Line Manager when stocks are low.
• To ensure that tools and equipment are in good working order, reporting any faults to Line Manager.
• General cleaning of surfaces (e.g., windowsills, skirtings/facings, and doors) as well as the cleaning of all sanitaryware.
• Replenishing toilet rolls, hand towels, soap etc. daily to always ensure plentiful supply.
• All VSAs are also required to contribute to major deep cleaning tasks during certain periods of the years.
• Empty and clean bins and remove waste to designated area, including the separation of waste, i.e., recycling, and any other duties which are in line with the Castle’s Green Tourism Award standards.
• Complete change overs in the Shore Lodge Bunkhouse.
• Report to Line Manager any defects seen which are likely to affect public experience and security.
• The VSA is required to use only approved cleaning materials and in accordance with manufacturers printed instructions and COSHH regulations. Chemicals should never be mixed with other chemicals.
• Ensure Safe Systems of Work is implemented effectively within function and with external contractors.

Under the day-to-day direction of the Visitor Services Manager, and in liaison with others as necessary, the Estate Worker works at the Trust’s properties in North Perthshire to maintain the path network and boundaries at all properties including strimming, fencing and small repairs and to look after the car park facilities at Killiecrankie and the Hermitage, contributing to the property’s overall conservation and development, and its enjoyment by visitors.
The Estate Worker works with the VSS, Rangers, Conservation Volunteers and other volunteer groups to undertake other estate work as required.

The key purpose of the job is to ensure that the North Perthshire properties are managed and maintained to a high standard, being conscientious about conservation, the environment and your surroundings. As a member of our Visitor Services team your job is to give visitors from across the globe a warm welcome to Perth & Kinross and help generate the income that enables us to care for Branklyn Garden.
