Full Time

Located in the Registrar team, this fixed-term, 12-month appointment will report to the Registrar Manager and play a key role in delivering National Museums Scotland’s loans, acquisitions and disposals programmes in accordance with Museum policy and procedures.

You will have a degree in a relevant subject, plus a postgraduate qualification in museum studies (or equivalent). You will have proven relevant work experience in delivering collection registration services in a museum or similar environment.

You will have an excellent working knowledge of all aspects of loan arrangements at both national and international level to assist with the delivery of the Museum’s programme of short and long term loans (incoming and outgoing). You will arrange insurance/indemnity cover for loans and maintain records of National Museums Scotland’s total indemnity.
With proven experience of museum acquisitions and disposals, you will apply professional knowledge and judgement to provide effective advice and support to Collections staff undertaking collections acquisitions and disposals. You will possess strong logistical and project management skills to assist with the management of transport and courier arrangements.

You will be a strong communicator with the ability to foster excellent working relationships with a diverse range of staff, both within the Museum and externally. To manage multiple projects and competing priorities, you will have strong time management skills, proficiency in using databases and Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. A driving licence or ability to arrange suitable alternative transport is essential.

About the team

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) is an agency of the Scottish Government. We manage Scotland’s Forests and Land on behalf of the Scottish Ministers.

FLS Central region covers 92,000ha of forests, stretching from the Atlantic oak woodlands on Cowal in the West, across Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park to the recreational pinewoods of Fife, and includes lowland raised bogs and former coal sites within the southern central belt area.

The Visitor Services Team are responsible for providing a high quality visitor experience through the management of the recreational facilities and engagement with: visitors, lease holders, event organisers and participants.

The Visitor Services team manage public access and safety across the geographically diverse holding including 112 managed trails 1 visitor centre and 40 urban woodlands that support the mental and physical wellbeing of over 2.6 million visitors annually.

What you will do

Working with a small team, you will manage a diverse range of sites. This includes The Lodge Visitor Centre, Aberfoyle along with Sallochy camp site on East Loch Lomond. You will work with colleagues to provide a high quality, 7 day, visitor experience, in a safe and cost effective way. The Lodge is currently accredited by Visit Scotland as a 5 star visitor attraction. Part of the role is to encourage new audiences to our sites across the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park and central belt, working with neighbours, groups and communities to enhance visitor experience.

You will also build working relationships with partners to develop and oversee visitor engagement and infrastructure projects.

Occasional evening, weekend and public holiday working is a requirement for the role.

Based in Glasgow, Waverley Excursions Ltd. is the proud operator of Waverley, the World’s last seagoing paddle steamer.

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a suitably qualified and experienced Marketing Executive to lead all aspects of marketing and promoting Waverley in Scotland and across the UK.

The successful applicant will have marketing experience both digital and ‘offline’, preferably with a visitor attraction or consumer facing environment. Some understanding of the tourism / events / heritage sectors will be beneficial. It is essential that all applicants can demonstrate a proven track record of success.

The Marketing Executive will run a multi media advertising campaign, design all marketing literature and liaise with external tourism organisations to ensure that Waverley has a profile befitting of her unique status as the last heritage passenger ship of her type operating anywhere in the world.

It is essential that applicants have an ability to communicate clearly across multiple marketing channels including social media, traditional press, e-newsletters and in person. An ability to write copy and create desire, leading to sales is essential.

Ideally Candidates will Possess:
• Formal training in marketing to an appropriate level
• Broad marketing experience including the use of Social Media channels
• Design skills to produce marketing literature using Windows and Adobe software

The Role of Marketing Executive within Waverley

As the Marketing Executive you will be responsible for all aspects of marketing Waverley. You will be supported in the role by the General Manager.

This is a full-time position based at our office in Glasgow (G3 8HA) with a requirement for occasional travel. Working hours are 9am-5pm with some flexibility as the position requires, annual holiday entitlement of 25 days and 10 set public holidays. There will be a requirement to occasionally sail on Waverley to ensure you fully understand the product and customer base.

There is a requirement for all office based staff to be flexible to meet the demands of the business, and handle enquires and ticket sales.

LEAD PAPER CONSERVATOR (BAND 4)
FULL-TIME, PERMANENT
£37,105 – £41,526 per annum

This is a specialist conservator role, providing leadership and strategic direction for paper conservation within NGS. The Paper Conservation Team is a small team currently comprised of three Conservators (including this role) and two Conservation Technicians, and it is occasionally supplemented by project roles.

This role is based within the Collections Care Directorate, reporting to the Head of Conservation. It sits alongside and complements the other conservation specialisms of paintings, frames, sculpture, preventive conservation, and heritage science.

The Paper Team has traditionally focussed on the artworks within the NGS collection, but while that remains the largest area of work, there is an increasing requirement for the team to be involved with the care of the library and archive.

PAPER CONSERVATOR (BAND 5)
FULL TIME, FIXED TERM FOR TWO YEARS

This is a specialist conservator role, delivering paper conservation across the collection. It is based within the Collections Care Directorate, reporting to the Lead Paper Conservator. It sits alongside and complements the other conservation specialisms of paintings, frames and time-based media.

The Paper Team has traditionally focussed on the artworks within the NGS collection, but while that remains the largest area of work, there is an increasing requirement for the team to be involved with the care of the library and archive.

Paper conservation and other main duties:

• Assist colleagues with the planning and programming of the paper conservation work required to deliver the loans, displays, exhibitions, acquisitions, and collections care activities which are scheduled.

• Keep records of work undertaken over the course of the year and liaise with colleagues to flag up any anticipated issues with the delivery of the work programme and to advise on whether additional requests can be accommodated.

• Undertake the conservation work required for exhibitions and displays of works on paper and library and archive material, both within NGS and at non-NGS sites, including advising on the suitability of works of art for transport and display, condition checking, conservation treatments and application of preventive conservation measures.

• Undertake paper conservation work required to improve standards of collections care, such as condition surveys of targeted parts of the collection and remedial treatments of objects in poor condition.

• Carry out a range of written and electronic documentation, including requesting photography, communicating findings, and providing data for entry onto the NGS collections management database (Multi Mimsy) and NGS website.

• With colleagues, respond to any incident reports which relate to works on paper or library and archive material.

• Liaise with Conservation Technicians and Art Handling Technicians to ensure that works are safely packed and installed, which may involve designing specialist storage and display cases.

• Where appropriate, undertake art historical research relating to parts of the NGS works on paper collection and the NGS library and archive collection, and conservation research relating to modes of deterioration and conservation materials and techniques.

KEY PURPOSE

To ensure that the garden and related policies of Geilston Garden are managed and maintained as a nationally recognized gardens of historical and horticultural importance, contributing to the property’s’ overall conservation and development, and its enjoyment by visitors and supporters.

The role of ‘Gardener’ as a key member of the Geilston Gardening Team will be heavily involved in the care and maintenance of the gardens and wider designed landscapes. This is a full-time post, and the successful applicant must be able to drive.

CONTEXT
The garden surrounding Geilston House is of the highest amenity and heritage standard and the Gardener position is critical in the ongoing development of property for the Trust.
The garden contains many of the elements one would expect of a country house with a formal walled garden with glasshouses, herbaceous borders and formal lawns and hedges. A woodland garden with trees, shrubs, spring bulbs and an abundance of wildlife lines the meandering Geilston Burn. A large productive kitchen garden contains, fruit, vegetables and cut flower borders that are propagated on site, planted, and harvested for the enjoyment of our visitors.
As such, we are looking for a knowledgeable and passionate horticulturist to work with our enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers and to assist with the continued development of a wide range of horticultural aspects of the garden as well as increasing the overall importance of Geilston Garden as a visitor attraction.

To ensure that the garden and related policies of Crarae Garden are managed and maintained as a nationally recognized gardens of historical and horticultural importance, contributing to the property’s’ overall conservation and development, and its enjoyment by visitors and supporters.

CONTEXT

Crarae is one of the finest examples of an exotic Himalyan style woodland garden. Set beside the banks of Loch Fyne, this unique 40 hectare garden is planted around the glen of the steep sided Crarae burn. The garden was started by Grace, Lady Campbell in 1912 and includes a National Collection of southern beech as well as excellent examples of rhododendron, maples, mountain ash and eucalyptus.

Under the direction of the Head Gardener, with supervision from the First Gardener, and as part of the property team, you will assist with the conservation, maintenance and development of the garden and designed landscape to ensure that Crarae Garden is presented to the highest standards to its visitors and guests.

To combine responsibilities on nature conservation, visitor services, learning and community engagement to help deliver the strategic objectives of the Brodick Country Park property and wider National Trust for Scotland.
Protect the landscapes in our care as part of ecologically healthy habitat networks where natural processes predominate and help combat climate change. Enable people to experience our heritage, get more out of it & put more back into it. Use evidence and practice from our natural heritage properties to support our voice in national debates advocating for natural heritage. Work with communities living close to our land or with an interest in our land so that they collaborate with us to help achieve our natural heritage outcomes. Protect the built and archaeological heritage in our care and use them to help us explain the “habitats” outcome and achieve the “visitor’s” outcome.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To support the conservation of Threave Garden & Estate by generating income through food and beverage operations and delivering the highest standard of visitor experience for all visitors. This will be achieved by maintaining the highest standards of conservation and adhering to regional and national strategies, policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Visitor Catering Experience
• Overall responsibility for the management and delivery of the catering facilities at Threave Garden & Estate
• Ensuring innovative ideas and current trends in catering are constantly being delivered in all outlets on site
• Setting objectives and being responsible for the overall, day-to-day running of the catering operations
• Leading and managing a team of staff; managing performance, recognising training needs and potential as appropriate
• Managing budgets – ensuring that, as a minimum, the financial targets agreed with, in line with the budget
• Devising, costing and sourcing menu items and consistently looking at ways of maximising income through effective purchasing and creative merchandising
• Adhering to the sale of alcohol legislation, being a Premises Manager

You will be part of a broader management team responsible for delivering an overall visitor service strategy, promoting good communication within the property and across the division as well as a joined-up service provision.

JOB PURPOSE
To maximise our visitors’ enjoyment of National Trust for Scotland managed sites by maintaining excellent standards of service, optimising opportunities to generate income and ensuring that the property and its assets are protected, safe and secure.
Specifically, working to support delivery of our public facilities and services. This role is to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of those everyday services which are available to the general public visiting Mar Lodge Estate. The role will support our rangers, visitor services, events and holiday let activities when required, helping to make the property the best possible place to visit and work.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
To provide a consistently high standard of visitor care at all times
• Welcoming visitors to the estate/property in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner, answering queries and providing information about the property, facilities and the local area;
• Provide a positive visitor experience to the estate by assisting with carparking, property checks, tours, events and onsite activities when required.
• Promoting National Trust for Scotland brand to include our Membership scheme, events, upselling other properties and any promotional campaigns, being proactive in the selling of Membership and Gift Aid;
• Welcoming visitors with special needs / impairments and providing a high level of service in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act;

JOB PURPOSE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

Combine responsibilities across the following areas of work with direct implementation and by overseeing on a daily basis the work of others such as contractors and volunteers:

Visitor Services
• Engage with the public, resident and visitors, to ensure positive interactions with the Trust and the property, promoting the key elements of the estate and encouraging membership recruitment.
• Work with local businesses and other partners to develop our offering to visitors and to develop and deliver an Events & Activities Programme aimed at increasing engagement with the heritage of the estate and positive visitor experiences.
• Assist with the maintenance and development of the visitor infrastructure and facilities on the estate, including the car parks at Linn of Dee and Linn of Quoich, and wider interpretation, leaflets, signage, etc.

Learning
• Work with partners, for example: local schools, colleges, community groups, etc., to develop learning opportunities consistent with the objectives of the Trust at the property.
• Work with educational institutions to support and undertake research that will assist in the planning and management of the property.

Community Engagement
• Communicate with local stakeholders, neighbouring landowners, local businesses, local/regional agencies, and others to increase understanding and awareness of their and our aims and develop collaborative working relationships/partnerships to help deliver our priorities.

Marketing & Communications
• Play a central role in the marketing of the Trust and the property using a combination of methods, media and platforms including leaflets, face-to-face communication, social media, website, etc. to promote our work and encourage engagement and participation by residents and visitors.
