PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
A Visitor Services Assistant is crucial to our visitors’ “first impression” of the property and in establishing and maintaining the Trust’s reputation as a guardian of Scotland’s heritage and as the organisation that actively wants people to engage with and enjoy the properties it cares for. As you will be working in a customer-facing role, this means you will directly engage with visitors so excellent customer and selling skills are imperative. The Visitor Services Assistant is expected to meet (if not exceed) sales targets.

You will ensure that the Gift Shop is presented to the highest standard and you are knowledgeable about the products sold within the Gift Shop.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Cash handling/reconciliation
• To support the Visitor Services Supervisor in creative merchandising of shop displays and ensuring shop displays are consistently delivered to the highest standard.
• Delivering a high level of customer service
• Delivering and completing stock counts accurately
• A passion for product knowledge and upselling
• Supporting all aspects of stock management: ordering, receipting deliveries, and dealing with delivery discrepancies.

Purpose of the role

To assist the Head Chef in the day-to-day management of the Catering & Hospitality offer at Culzean Castle & Country Park to ensure that all targets are met and all visitors receive the highest level of visitor experience standards.

• Contribute to food production as per the Menu Cycle/Specification and event Food Production (corporate, hospitality, meetings etc)

As a member of the Retail team you are on the front line delivering the income that allows the National Trust for Scotland to look after Castle Fraser. JOB PURPOSE

As part of the team which cares for Glencoe National Nature Reserve, a Ranger plays a crucial role in ensuring that our conservation ambitions go hand in hand with welcoming our local community and visitors from across the globe to this well-loved place.

You will share your enthusiasm for the outdoors and passion for the countryside with the walkers, campers and sightseers who come to explore our 14,000 acre estate, including eight iconic Munros, in Glencoe and Glen Etive.

You will work on your own and with other staff and volunteers, on a variety of practical conservation tasks to help us protect the landscapes in our care, as part of ecologically healthy habitat networks where natural processes predominate and help combat climate change.

You will work out in the landscape, on walking routes, in our parking areas, at popular spots for camping and at our visitor centre, acting as an ambassador for the National Trust for Scotland, building awareness and support for our charity. You’ll leave those you meet with a desire to respect, protect and enjoy this special natural environment and an understanding of how they can help do this.

You will contribute to the long-term sustainability of Glencoe’s ranger service through income generated at pay-for events, memberships and donations inspired by our work, growing our capacity through involving volunteers and cost-effective use of resources.

Conservation

 Be an enthusiastic and effective part of the ranger service, contributing to the smooth operation and ecological enhancement of Glencoe NNR.
 Carry out site monitoring and record keeping, helping us to evaluate performance and inform conservation management decisions, including habitat and species surveys, archaeology and footpath condition checks, weather gauge observations and people counter figures.
 Perform a range of practical habitat conservation and improvement tasks, including vegetation, woodland and invasive-species management.
 Support the estate’s deer management plans, either through the coordination of contractors or by conducting practical stalking activities (if qualified).
 Achieve high standards of presentation and repair for estate infrastructure to achieve ecological, visitor service and safety outcomes, including litter clearance and path, fence, gate, wall and sign maintenance.
 Seek to minimize our environmental impact through sustainable working practices and sensitive use of power, equipment, transport, and other resources.

Public engagement

 Participate in estate patrols at busy times and locations, including weekends and evenings, to engage with tourists, outdoor activity enthusiasts and campers, championing a “leave no trace” culture and providing practical advice based on the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
 Welcome customers in our Visitor Centre Information Hub in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner, answering queries and providing information about the property, facilities and the local area.
 Contribute to the development and delivery of educational and outreach activities that bring alive our stories, including social media content, on-site displays, self-guided trails, signage, guided walks, talks, events or other hands-on activities.

Working together

 Recruit, induct and supervise volunteers to help grow our team’s capacity, and assist with the leadership of group volunteering activities as required.
 Build collaborative working relationships/partnerships with our neighbours and local community, including other land managers, schools, community groups and recreational users, to help deliver the Trust priorities.

 Graduate level qualifications or equivalent experience in countryside management, nature conservation or environmental studies.
 Experience of practical land management and conservation work and of supervising others to conduct tasks.
 Knowledge of Scottish habitats and species, particularly upland flora and fauna, and ecological survey and monitoring techniques.

As Caretaker you will support the Facilities Team ensuring that the needs of our visitors, colleagues and tenants are met and that day-to-day operations at Dalkeith Country Park run smoothly with emergencies being responded to effectively. In addition, you will carry out small maintenance jobs and liaise with contractors on bigger jobs.

As a Guide at Edinburgh Castle, you will be responsible for providing excellent service to visitors and enhancing their experience of the castle. This post includes weekend working.

You will provide information, assistance and deliver guided tours whilst also ensuring visitor safety at Edinburgh Castle. The duties are detailed below:

The Admissions Team operate at the front of the Castle, welcoming visitors from all over the world. It is a large team, led by the Admissions Manager and three Admissions Supervisors. Roles within the team include checking tickets, promoting memberships, issuing audio tours and managing traffic. This post includes weekend working.

• Provide a world class welcome and direct visitors as appropriate upon their arrival at Edinburgh Castle.
• Sell appropriate tickets and products to all walk-up visitors.

2022 was a very exciting (and busy) year at Muckle Brig as we finally opened our new Lind & Lime Gin distillery on Coburg Street. This greatly enhanced our production capacity for gin, but also provided us with a superb new brand home where we now welcome visitors for weekly tours.

Moving forward, the Port of Leith Distillery will open in summer 2023. Here we intend to make a remarkable new single malt Scotch whisky and become a major new tourism landmark in Edinburgh.

OVERVIEW

We’re building Scotland’s first vertical distillery in Edinburgh’s historic whisky district of Leith. The Leith Export Co (LEXCO) is our trading arm. It serves as the online shop for The Port of Leith Distillery and Lind & Lime Gin, and very soon, it will take the form of physical retail spaces at both of those distilleries. Our stunning LEXCO retail area sits on Level 6 of our incredible new building with views spanning across the Firth of Forth, Leith, and back up across Edinburgh. This will be our 2nd LEXCO outlet; the first being at our Lind & Lime Gin Distillery. We want to make this one of the most exciting retail spaces, anywhere.

We’re looking for a passionate, super friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic Retail Assistant with excellent multi-tasking skills to join our whisky, gin and people-loving Visitor Experience Team.

As the LEXCO Retail Assistant, you will be the face of LEXCO retail.
Our Distilleries are fun, fast-paced, diverse environments to work in. Excellent communication skills are paramount to a successful day. Your skills, enthusiasm and diplomacy will shine through for our guests and your colleagues within the distilleries.

Duties include:
• Provide excellent customer service
• Welcome and orientate guests, including checking in tour guests on arrival
• Assist the retail team in day-to-day tasks
• Be responsible and proactive
• Actively up-sell products through strong product knowledge and excellent customer service to maximise sales
• Have a flexible approach to working hours and days including working weekends and Bank Holidays as appropriate
• Ongoing cleanliness and presentability of the retail area
• Assisting with guests needs as required to ensure an excellent experience
• Retail shifts on rotation in our LEXCO Shop
• Assist with weekly and monthly stock takes of Retail stock
• Fulfilling online retail orders for collection and posting
• Assisting with tour teams back of house when necessary
• Adhering to Muckle Brig Ltd.’s quality standards including wearing of uniform
• Adhere to Muckle Brig Ltd.’s Health, Safety and Environment policies and guidelines.
• Being a superb ambassador for all aspects of Muckle Brig including Lind & Lime, Port of Leith Distillery and LEXCO, our export company.
• Other tasks as required

Skills & Experience:

You are a superb communicator with an enthusiastic and flexible approach, with the ability to adapt to any situation. You can create a fabulous atmosphere for all our guests. You are a competent multi-tasker who thrives on being part of a team delivering excellent visitor experience.

• Enthusiastic and confident, warm, friendly and the ability to work within the team, with minimal supervision to a high and safe standard
• Positive, can-do attitude
• Ability to adapt to customer flow while maintaining excellent service quality
• Excellent front of house skills
• Demonstrable time management skills and the ability to prioritise
• Previous retail experience would be advantageous but not essential

– Ensuring that the Britannia tour route and visitor centre are cleaned to a high standard and maintained throughout your shift
– Safe use and storage of all equipment and chemicals required to maintain the cleanliness of the tour route and visitor centre
– Assisting with any other duties, as required by the Housekeeping Team Leaders and Visitor Experience Managers

The ideal candidate will be committed to delivering high standards in Housekeeping, have a friendly, can-do attitude and a desire to help and assist staff and visitors alike. No professional cleaning experience required, as full training will be provided.
